Going to Germany tomorrow - what should I visit?

Are there any triathlon store I should def check out? I am flying into Frankfurt, then going to Berlin, Hamburg, and Munich. I don’t have tons of time, but wouldn’t mind checking out some cool tri stores if it is worth it.

I can only speak for Hamburg.
And I don’t think we have a ‘Have-To-Go-and-See’ store.

But there are some smaller shops:

Bike shops:
Von Hacht http://www.radsportvonhacht.de/ (Maker of Stevens Bikes)
Storm Cycles http://www.storm-cycles.com/ (Maker of Pearl Bikes) and located downtown
Radsport Zentrum Hamburg http://www.radsportzentrumhamburg.de/

Tri Shop (but without Bikes):
Laufwerk http://www.laufwerk-hamburg.de/

Running:
Lunge http://www.lunge.de/wp/category/filialen/ with 2 shops downtown

But again IMHO nothing that is so outstanding worthy to be missed

And then there is also Karstadt Spiel und Sport http://www.karstadt.de/...len/index_01215s.jsp downtown having a little bit of everything and is probably the biggest sports good shop in Hamburg.

Sports equipment in Germany tends to be EXPENSIVE compared to the US. At least that has been my experience.

Konstanz on the Bodensee, my sister and her family have lived there for 10 years…I rode my bike there and got in over 1000k in about 5 weeks. I loved it, rode to Switzerland to Austria…its an amazing place.

Don’t waste your time in tri stores. Waste it in Berlin city, way better place to hang out then tri stores.

You’re going to Germany and want to check tri stores?? Dude…seriously!
You’ll have plenty of sight seeing to do there. Enjoy, forget about tri while you’re there.

Visit:

  1. The Porsche factory
  2. Dachau
    .

Visit:

  1. The Porsche factory
  2. Dachau

and a brewery and a grill on the street for a good sausage!

…and the BMW museum in Munich.

cars are for people too lazy to run or cycle, beer and sausages are the right fuel for triathletes… Germany is paradise!

The Porshe factory is in Stuttgart and it is over-rated IMHO.

I agree about Dachau – MUST see and do. Definately don’t miss this. Something that you will never forget.

Although I haven’t been yet, I would definitely stop at the Andechs Monastery and off course the Hofbrau House (I’ll be there next month) if time allows. Just depends on how much time is available.

Big can of worms here. So much to see and do. Getting close to the Alps so Neuschwanstein Castle could be done. Another MUST see. Just depends on time. So much to see and do. Love, love, love Germany.

Whatever you do, don’t waste your time in a tri or bike store. That is just plain dumb.

Ich Liebe Deuchsland.

Munchen ist super. Visit the english gardens and the beer halls. There is also a great history/engineering museum in Munich.
Have been there 5 times or so and the last time I went to the Olympic games areas and there was a big run race on. the atmosphere was great. Also the walk along the canals to the palace there was pretty special. I always had a freind there who looked after me so maybe that was why it was so good.
Berlin is also great and you must see the Brandenburg gates and the parliament. Some of the building their still have chips in the concrete from the war, but that is old history. Have heard the nightlife there is very interesting to say the least.
a run around the lake in the center of Hamburg was also nice.

In Hamburg, lots of interesting shops at St-Pauli.

Night life in Berlin is interesting at least. I can assure you that.

I would go see the sights, experience the foods and check out the culture. If I were you I would not use up the valuable time in Europe visiting bike shops etc.

Well come on people! I thought the only place that would have some little appreciation for spending some time in a tri related endevour would be st

But yes, i am there mostly to see all the other great things Germany has to offer. It just happens to be that I am going without my wife so the time normally spent on her shopping, I might be able to use to check other things. I remember seeing the hamburg race on ituonline video so it will be cool to see where that all went down.

Unfortunetely I won’t have time to rent a bike anywhere, but I am bringing my garmin305 to run and not get lost - so if anyone has specific recommendations on places to run in berlin or munich let me know - I am staying pretty close to the center of both cities (within a mile).

Thank you,
hector.

forget tri stores, you gotta see the “Dom” in Koln.

Holy crap that thing was humongous. Gorgeous too. If you like animals, I found the zoos in Germany were in a whole other level compared to those in North America.

The government paid my way to Germany for three summers in a row. If you want great beer go to the Andechs Monastery. The monks brew and serve - its excellent and lots of fun on the patio. If you can get South visit one of the castles. In Munich go to the Hofbrau House. Definitely visit Dachau - you will never forget.

who are you…are you new to ST?

Berlin is fantastic, one of the best cities I’ve ever visited.
