i completely missed out on the black friday deal… saw $300 round trip, but didn’t think much of it. stupid move, i know. now it is more than $500…
when do people buy air tickets to boston marathon?? what’s the general consensus on best time to buy air ticket??
This is why I fly southwest… buy the ticket when they first release those flights for sale (typically 6-9 months away). If the price later drops, you can call and get credit.
Did this for my flights to Florida in March. Bought in the summer, but the prices dropped when they had a sale in September - saved $75 on each ticket.
thanks for the reply folks!
do people believe that once you search for round ticket from a particular computer, the price would go up afterwards? would I be better off using a different computer or is it one of those urban myth?

You don’t need to switch computers, just clear your cookies before searching again. All the popular sites will track your computer history through cookies and jack up prices when you search again. Just get rid of the cookies and it’s like you’re searching for the first time.

I have never heard nor experienced this. I am a slow decision maker and will run a search 10x and still wait a day before purchasing. I rarely see prices fluctuate.
My wife and I just booked a multi-city flight. I searched nearly every site available to find the best coordination for us. I went back nearly a week later to finally book it and the price had not changed.

I’m just going off what I’ve read/heard…I know I clear cookies on my laptop before searching every time to be safe, but it may very well be one of those urban myths. Doing a quick online search I found this, on a different message board (i.e. take it with as much salt as everything you read in the LR):
If it’s cookies… then it’s easy to verify…run up the price then clear your cookies and see what happens. But… it’s not cookies.
Its a bid/demand algorthym. This is used by many of the sell off places…the more hits to a certain destination in the course of 24 hours the higher the price will be the next 24 hours.
Its called “Demand Sensing” and utilizes a BPO database and tools created by Micro Strategy. don’t ask how i know cause i may or may not be violating a NDA.
