(this is doug’s daughter, Cleo, official stenographer).
After being back in the hospital for 8 days with my right lung full of fluid, I’m going home on Monday (aww yeh). This morning the doctor came in and said ‘All the fluid is gone’. He gave me a shot of lidocane and pulled the tube out of my chest. I had reached a point in my life where everything was on hold. The thought of going forward didn’t exist for me any more. I just lay there in disbelief. Then the thought came back- fuck you, keep moving. The little train that could, could. I’m moving forward again. I don’t know what tomorrow will bring, but it will be another adventure. I still have a long way to go, and I’m going there.
Great news! Nothing makes you feel better than sleeping in your own bed, getting a real shower, and eating non-hospital food. Congrats on the homecoming!
I know it’s a battle Doug, but keep on battling. The war will be won. I saw this morning that there are now almost 10 million cancer survivors living in the United States. You will be one of them.
I concur…that is HUGE news. Keep up the good fight Doug! We’re all cheering from the sidelines, but you are the one in the race…only you can help yourself…keep that mind strong!
