Goggle recommendations

I need new goggles, any good recommendations?

My recommendation for goggles is simple: Find a store which will let you try them on. You’ll know almost instantly if a goggle works for your eyes or not.

Goggles are like shoes… you have to find the ones that work for YOUR body.

Aquasphere kaiman

I agree.

Exactly. My local tri & swim shop has a milk carton full of different types of different swim goggles to test out. It took my husband like 20+ tries before he found some that would fit on his face.

Having said that, I love my swedes and couldn’t imagine going back to something big and bulky that gives my face a rash like most goggles with a gasket seem to do.

If you live in SoCal Nytro will let you try them on…Im a big fan of the Vision by Blue 70

Swedes. $2.79 a pair. They are the best googles ever, they don’t leak and are fully adjustable. When you are putting them together just make sure to not tight them too much.

i swear swedes are the first goggle to work on me. i bought a sac of them.
i also really like tyr socket rockets…basically a swede with a thin rubber gasket around the eye cups.
i wear these all the time now. they’re a bit more comfortable and work just as well.

Without question Sable Optics , The Rolls Royce of swimming goggles.

If you guys have not tried Sable , you really should give them a try.

swedes but use a piece of strap instead of the string nosepiece

x2 on Aquasphere kaiman.

I’ve swum for many years and worn swedes and many many different goggles (note: not Sables). For me Aquasphere are the most comfortable (I’ve worn them for races up to 20km) and have by fair and away the best field of vision. Everyone to whom I’ve lent a pair has agreed.

After using aquasphere other goggles feel like you’re wearing blinkers the field of vision is so narrow.

If you can borrow a pair I think that you’ll love them.

For those that wear the swedes. Do you wear them in training and racing? Being that I have never worn them they look very uncomfortable without some sort of padding.

that’s why the tyr socket rockets are perfect. i wear them for training and racing now.

I wear my swedes for training and racing with no problems.

You may have to sand down the seam on the edges in the beginning because it can be a little rough, but once that smooths out, there are a lot of dedicated fish who wear swedes in the pool for up to six hours a day.

If they fit your eye sockets and you adjust them properly, they’re more comfortable than anything I’ve tried with padding.

good call. I forgot that people might not know to throw out the string thingie.

After many years of trial and error, the ones I like best for training and racing are the Tyr Racetechs.

Once you get over your fear of losing the padding, you will NEVER go back to those ridiculous padded things again. Sweedes are more comfortable, no question. And I’ve never seen anyone have trouble with them fitting their eye socket. After you make the switch you will soon realize that those padded behemoths were compressing your whole face while the sweedes will merely provide light pressure. Swimmers wear sweedes for 6+ hours per day, up to 18,000 yards per day. Wearing them over the long haul is not a problem. Your ability to swim at a reasonable pace on yard #18k could be a problem though…

As pointed out, cutting off a piece of strap to use in the middle (between the eyes) is probably better than dealing with the string thing.

Not only are the sweedes more comfy, but they will last until the goggle strap breaks down (1 year +) and they are dirt cheap. They are perfectly fine for open water swimming.
