Well, the National Guard goes to war with the Army, Iraq. Plus, NG goes through the same training.
I’m a former Gurardsmen, now triathlons take up most, should I say ALL of my time.
I actually did know that the NG fell under the Army. Just trying to keep the innerservice rivalry alive and kicking.
From the Pacific Ocean, Go Navy…beat Army.

Go Navy. I grew up in Annapolis.

Dude, are you deployed through the holidays? Tough deal. At least it is the off season! Hope you have a great Christmas and New Years anyway.
GO NAVY…

As I get older and being a Naval Academy Graduate (I went there and was able to see all of Roger Staubach’s games including when we went to the Cotton Bowl ranked #2 - now that was a great time to attend the Naval Academy and Navy Football games) I have come to hope simply that both teams play well, although I must admit I still tend to hope that Navy ends up on top. The current Superintendent of the Naval Academy is a classmate of mine and I can tell you he is extremely proud of what that institution has become and how the Navy Football team plays its games. They may not win them all but they never give up. I assume the same is true of Army.
It was a great game today, both acadamies did themselves proud.
At some point Army is going to have to decide what they want to be as a team. Navy wisely decided that they should embrace the triple-option system. If you are in the business environment this is a brilliant strategy system because Navy is contrained to the academic and physical constraints on their players. There won’t be any 6’6" 330lbs linemen there. The option system suits them very well, and they have a coach that embraces this “fit”. Army needs to make this decision as well. They could easily adopt the west-coast system, and they have a great first year cadet QB.
And both have increasingly good basketball teams, which is great to see.
I’m also MD born and bread (sp?) so I support Navy.
Air Force should always be forced to operate the Run-N-Shoot, while th eMarines (if they played college football) would be compelled to be keepin’ the Wishbone alive.
I played for Army under Homer Smith (who is a friggin offensive genius) and under Lou Saben (who coached well in the pro’s but didn’t know jack about college/service academy football). I wish I had played under Jim Young who came in after I’d graduated. Coach Young brought the option back to Army for just the reasons you cite and Army did well. Wasn’t spectacular football but it played to the cadets’ strengths and Army went to several bowl games.
I will be cheering hard for Navy in their bowl game.

ARMY ROTC - 76 here…
One thing I’ve always cherished “on those Friendly Fields of Strife?”
Immediatly after the final second, service academy teams from both sides–join one another for the singing of respective alma maters.
I’ve never seen this anywhere else.

GO ARMY…next year!

Notre Dame joins in this tradition when it plays a service academy team.
BTW, Go NAVY!!

You’re right! There’s a reason I cheered for ND this year even though they were humiliated by the university of spoiled children…
Cheers,

The Marines do play college football…for the Naval Academy. A lot of student-athletes at the USNA go Marine. I actually have a t-shirt given to me by the Track coach that reads “Semper Fast.”
