Go deaf from Ipod?

my husband swears i’m going deaf from ipod. how loud should ipod be, or not be?

huh?

I don’t know about going deaf but when I can hear people’s music through their headphones from across the room I usually assume they can’t be doing anything good for their ears.

Can your iPod cause you to go deaf?

Not partcularly going “deaf”, but you are probably doing nerve damage, which cannot be recovered.

My wife is a Speech Therapist, with a minor in Audiology, so I hear(barely) about my music/tv/etc being too loud all the time. With my job, and my music listening habits, I cannot hear if someone is talking and there is background noise. I pretty much have a ringing in my ears at all times that I can hear when it’s quiet(tinnitus). She took me into class during her Masters program and got tested. I basically have the hearing level of a 60+ year old.

Do yourself a favor and turn down the music(although I am a hypocrite, because I just barely turn mine down from what it was).

they told me I was going to go deaf when I bought my first walkman in the mid '80s.

huh?

thanks; this also makes me think of my car…the music is entirely too lough. i don’t want to have the hearing of a 60 year old! just say no to hearing aids at age 32.

If you play it loud, yes you will be hard of hearing.

I suffer from a sensorineural hearing loss and have trouble following conversations in noisy enviorments as well.My hearing loss wasnt brought on by loud noise,(according to my Otolaryngologist, and 3 other doctors )but they really dont know for sure what caused it.I dont really listen to music with headphones, but when i do I turn the volume down.

Kittycat, some people are a little bit more sensetive to loud noise then others,so I would definitely limit the amount of time you listen to your Ipod, and turn the volume down.
You might also want to see an audiologist to get your hearing checked.

The problem is I just turned 27!!

Unfortunately, they know what caused mine.
I was hired as a full time Firefighter at age 19(age 27 now) in a large city. We would go screaming through town 20+ times a day with the windows down and sirens going. Now, we roll the windows up, but it doesn’t make much difference. Prior to that, I was at the age when rap was popular to listen to. Part of that was having the largest stereo possible to listen to it. In my case, I had 4 JL Audio 12" speakers in the trunk of a 1995 Grand Am GT.

I still listen to my music and TV louder than my wife likes, but if the AC/Furnace comes on or someone is talking, it’s the only way I can hear it.

I’m 44 years old,and I’m guessing my hearing is a bit worse then yours.
When I watch tv,I’ll usually lower the volume, but I’ll turn on the “closed captioning” feature which makes it easier to follow.

Yeah, well don’t worry. Most of your friend have them too, so if we are still friends in our 60’s?/70’s/80’s, we can just yell at each other. Thankfully you have a nice, loud voice!

God, i am loud, aren’t i. LOL. perhaps i would give Rachel Ray a run for her money. (just kidding…if i’m that loud please suffocate me.)

R. Sparks told me he’s not really heard anybody yell at him quite like i have (during a race). hahahaha.

what?

You’re not loud, you just have big lungs.

I think a big no-no is iPod when riding. I did that Saturday and had to turn it up loud to bury the wind noise. When I rolled to a stop I realized how loud it had been. That’s no good. My ears were ringing for 24+ hours.

According to this link, you can safely listen to your iPod at 70% volume for about 4.6 hrs a day with the stock headphones.

Clay Aiken is highly damaging to your ears.

Guess what kids, you are turning into your parents. Mine told me I would go deaf in the 60s listening to that loud music, was told that when walkman came out, then discman, now Ipod.
Wait till you catch yourself telling your kids," you can wait until you are 18 to get that tat or hole in your lip/tongue " ever hear that one?

Yes, surprisingly enough, people have always known that loud noise hurts your hearing.
