Just got my results back from my physical and I was wondering if anyone knew if it was better to have higher or lower levels of glucose in your blood…
Standard tests to make sure I’m going to live - but was curious to know if you’d want to be higher or lower in the ‘acceptable’ range…or, if b/c I was fasting for the test, it doesn’t matter.
This is (mostly) done as a preliminary diabetes check.
you should be fasted (> 8 hours) for the test. Normal values are < 100 mg/dL (divide that by 5.5 if your levels are reported in mmolar concentration).
Generally, lower would be better, but around 65 mg/dL, you run the risk becoming hypoglycemic. Neither fun, nor healthy, so there’s a ‘healthy range’, for lack of a better term.
Fasting levels: 100 - 125 mg/dL are considered ‘pre-diabetic’ (impaired fasting glucose). Over 126 mg/dL is bad news.
