Please check with others before you take my suggestion too seriously! I have NO idea if this destroys carbon. I have Alluminum Rolf Vector Pro tubulars (I love 'em!) and I have found that Goof Off works amazingly well. I get it at Home Depot and just spray it on, wait a few seconds or a minute and hose it off. With medium water presure the glue falls right off. I rang Zipp and they said use acetone on their carbon wheels.
if the glue is clean and evenly layered, leave it on. residual glue is your friend.
