Giving credit where credit isn't due

Just been thinking about how it’s interesting that people get credit for things such as being beautiful as if it somehow reflects on them being a good person or as if they’d worked for it or something along those lines. It’s an interesting phenomenon. Sure in some cases when somebody loses a ton of weight and starts taking better care of themselves maybe credit is due. However in the case of just a naturally beautiful man or woman it seems funny to me.

There are many, many studies that show physically attractive people as having multiple advantages in life, looked at as being smarter etc than “average” looking people. Winning the genetic lottery has its advantages.

Ya, that’s definitely a related concept. I just meant in terms of compliments and such things. Since this is the Lavender Room we could probably tie in evolution as well

Does it bother when someone gets a compliment for being smart, too?

Never said it bothers me just stating an observation. That is something which I considered touching on in my OP as being a similar concept though. But I think there are some differences as for example intelligence can change over the period of a lifetime while natural beauty can’t be acquired later on.

Why do you hate beautiful people?

Anyway, keep in mind that there are many ways for a good looking person to become non-good looking. Even hotties have to put forth some sort of effort to stay hot. Don’t overlook maintenance.

The maintenance is a good point and later on in life looks might therefore become more telling. And I like beautiful people, I find them attractive.

Who should the credit go to?

Who should the credit go to?

Genetics? Parents who showed them how to eat healthy and be active vs. stuffing them with fast food? I don’t know, but I’m just saying at least in my demographic, which is early 20s mind you, that I don’t think someone’s beauty is something that they themselves really earned, at least in most cases excluding ones such as the weight loss/getting in shape scenario that I mentioned in my OP. So regardless of what/who deserves the credit, it’s not the people themselves.

Does it bother when someone gets a compliment for being smart, too?

That’s actually usually a compliment (unintentionally) on their education, erudition, or articulation and not raw intelligence.

Don’t hate me because I’m beautiful.

I don’t really disagree, but if you run this out you get to where no one really built anything. You’re good looking due to genetics, you’re athletic due to genetics and good coaching, you’re smart due to genetics, the school you went to and environment you grew up in, you work hard because of genetics and other people pushing you to work hard, …

There aren’t really many things that you can completely take credit for. Everything around you built you to what you are. You didn’t build that. So congratulations Obama, that chick is hot.

It can definitely reach that point. In my opinion the key factor is if there was a decision to do/become something vs. just being that already. So one could differentiate between different cases based on that criteria.

about once a week I get kudos for being the perfect height 6’2" No one really knows how lonely it is here at the top, and how much work I have to put into it.
