cyclingnews has salvodelli winning the stage…

yep, paulo won the day…cunego…ouch…gotta say i love it, now if they can just get rid of simoni too…i’d love to see dario cioni get up there…he was so good last year after doing all the work for ale jet.

The official Giro Web site has Savoldelli (Francois: note the placement of the first “L”; yes, it seems wrong) winning over Basso. Cunego finished five (5) minutes down. Savoldelli was the only one to hold Basso’s wheel (Simoni was close, but no cigar) when he put the hammer down, and came around him at the end.

I know right before the start of the Giro, the Lampre squad and Cunego himself declared Simoni as the team leader as he was in better shape - something about Cunego also racing the Tour and having to start his buildup a bit later.

Pretty cool that in the top-10 of the stage, there are nine different teams represented. A real mano a mano. And the only team to have two riders in the top-10 is Lotto, how crazy is that.

Results were revised, there are ten different teams in the top ten now. But the top three finishers were all on bikes from companies in North America!

WOW, very interesting…I never knew Di Luca to be such a great climber, he is a true al’arounder. Basso is so so smart, he is riding a perfect Giro. I felt that Cunego was pushing to hard in the first few stages that really didnt matter.

I think the reason Cunego was trying so hard was to solidify his position as team leader. If he had gotten 2 or 3 minutes on Simoni then the team would be forced to work for him. But when you crack so bad in the mountains that plan goes out the window fast.

Di Luca is having such a great year, he is truly on form to get a huge contract next year $$$$

I think after todays stage puts Cunego in a much better position to aid Simoni on the remaining mnt stages without the bitterness of last year. Or if the rivalry is still lingering a solo mountain stage win or two. Basso sure looked to be the strongest in todays climb. To bad OLN killed their daily coverage. :frowning:

OLN killed their coverage? I watched the whole thing on OLN online (with baited breath in case they chopped it again!). I disagree with Basso as strongest - I think Savoldelli had just an n’th more - he sure road a smart race. What about Savo’s descending talent! wow!

HAHA…! Maybe Savoldelli were smarter than Basso, but Basso only thought about taking as much time on Simoni and Cunego as he could.! He pulled Savoldelli the last 2 miles or something like that. Savoldelli got his stage and Basso his jersey…! Both were happy

“OLN killed their coverage?” Compared to the last few years… yea. OLN Killed the Giro coverage “C-I-L-L” kill my landlord.

… and I paid extra tier money to re-acquire OLN for 2 weekend Giro round-ups?

I don’t remember daily coverage last year in any media… just the Thursday and Sunday shows…and now they have two afternoon shows and every weekday stage in full on the web. Apart from the hiccups yesterday, I’d say this is better than we have had for the last few years. just MHO

Last year OLN had live daily coverage of the Giro on their TV channel, not $5.95 streaming web coverage. And it had commentary.

Wow, I must have missed that completely - sorry  I don’t know how I didn’t catch 3 weeks of cycling, unless… <<missing time?? - abducted by alien roadies??>>

I must have been out training or someting (perhaps grilling burgers would be more likely).

That’s my problem, every time there is daily coverage of a bicycle race I end up wanting to skip workouts to watch it!!

Of course I would actually prefer the streaming web coverage to TV anyway- no ads, no inane commentary (although I am a fan of Phil, Paul & Bobke I am definitely not a fan of Mr Troutwig), but most of all, continuous uninterrupted coverage… nice - its almost like being IN the helicopter

I like it as well, but I WAS a bit dissappointed yesterday when it cut out at the crux of the race! Oh well, beats nothing and 6 bucks for the whole thing is worth it for sure.
