Giro D'italia Stage Results

A 1-2 for CSC and Cervelo today as David Zabreski (US TT Champion) rode to victory on his P3SL ahead of his team leader Ivan Basso, who came 2nd on his P3C. Today’s stage was a 44km individual time trial which saw Di Luca retain his leader’s jersey after being bellowed on by Cipo in the team car following around the course.

Today’s result sees Basso climb into the top five on GC as the Giro approachs the mountains.

This looks like it is going to be a really good bicycle race.

I wonder if the Liquigas-Bianchi team with DiLuca, Cioni, Garzelli might have a small advantage when they get to the mountains as they all seem very strong and can support each other.

It certainly is shaping up for an exciting second week, with Liquigas and CSC slugging it out in the mountains, as this update from CSC site reveals:

Team CSC Dominates Giro Time Trial
15.05 17:15

The first time trial in this year’s Giro d’Italia was truly dominated by Team CSC. David Zabriskie won the stage ahead of Ivan Basso, who improved to second overall, just nine seconds behind Danilo Di Luca (Liquigas).

Giro TT=186 riders
1st. David Zabriskie (USA), CSC, 58:31
186th. Moreno Di Biase (I), Colombia - Selle Italia, 1:08:43
Difference between 1st and 186th place = 10 minutes 12 seconds.
That is really tough competition.
