Giro Advantage II: US vs Euro version

Hi,

does anyone know whether there is any difference between the Euro and US version of the Giro Advantage II helmet?

One has a CPSC sticker and the other does not.

And at a USAT that’s a very important distinction.

I think so. I mean sure there are those who say you can use the euro helmet with no problems, but for the few dollars difference between buying a grey-market euro or the US version, I’m hapy with my US version. Plus it fits great.

Both helmets are safe. However, the pre 2008 versions that were only available in Europe are not approved for use in USAT or USCF racing. While a lot of officials will ignore the rule or not notice, if one decides to enforce it you will not be able to use your helmet in the race. If you don’t have another helmet with you this could be a big problem.

From what I understand the version of the Advantage2 (Euro Version is just called Advantage) that was produced in very small quantities last year, mainly for salesman samples, was very, very close to passing CPSC, but did not. The new one was made 2mm wider if I remember correctly, which allowed it to easily pass.

Some other improvments were also made. The ease of putting on the 2008 production helmets vs. the 2007 samples was the main thing I noticed.

The thing I REALLy like about my advantage is the flexible earpieces that allow you to ge the helmet on, but then flex back to cover the ear. How this traps air or caused whistling, I don;t know yet, but it makes getting the hemet on pretty easy.

I don’t know if you ever tried any of the 2007 samples, but that was the single biggest improvement I noticed.

I’d seen one sent to a sponsored athlete with the “hard” earpieces and was like “hmmm, that’ll require a plan to deal with,” but when I got my helmet las week I was pleasantly surprised. I think it’s gonn abe great.

one thing you will notice is that there is no solid band of sweat pads along the front of the helmet. I took mine out for spin today and there was sweat rolling down my face.
