I did say it was not the best test. It was only two data points each. Nothing I can do about that in such short time.
The headwind and tail wind section with both helmets were 1 minute after each other.
The Tail Wind section with the Advantage was not slower than then the Evade test, it was .3kmh faster (I avg. 3 watts higher with the Advantage), Despite the calmed down wind conditions.
The big difference was the Headwind section with the two Helmets, I averaged 2.8kmh faster in this section with the Advantage. This is due to wind calming down approximately 5kmh, but it can not all be attributed to this as the Tailwind section was not slower by an equivalent amount.
I think the biggest thing in this section was me, I could hear the sound change the second I came out of my ideal head position with the Advantage. So despite attempts to keep the positions the same, I thing the Advantage test was certainly skewed into the wind.
You started saying that the Advantage is faster “hands down”. But your test shows an 11 minute delta over an IM leg which is basically impossible (for me, I was never 11 min slower in an IM or 5.5 min slower in a half IM and did around 20 races with the Evade and around 15 with the Giro). Across racing on the same courses within seconds or a minute off the same power…obviously race conditions changed, but if you do enough of them and are not 11 min slower on the Evade some statistically significant conclusions can be made.
Advantage on you may be 1 min faster, it might be 3 min faster, but it’s not 11 min faster in an IM, so this is the problem with your test. Keep working at it and over time with enough runs where the conditions are the same or similar, you will see harder data emerge at fixed race pace target power (or get to a velodrome).
Thanks for the discussion.
Sensationalism sells.
The delta was large. Very Large. I think far to large. I agree with you. However I think the Advantage is probably faster for me.
You keep focusing on the Wind change, should I have not gone slower on the Advantage Tail wind section if this was all primarily about the wind?
I feel something substantially changed between test runs to the point that the delta is “unknown”. 11 min over an IM simply points to the test runs being inconsistent enough to not be able to draw any conclusions YET. I think you need more runs, that’s all. The Advantage may indeed be faster for you, but your test would be thrown out by any engineering or math faculty as not being a valid test.
