Giro Advantage 2 (2)

Let’s get this straight… somebody have any reliable information or source about the date this helmet will be available?

Most of the websites say mid August… is that true?

Regards,

Carlos

one more time… this helmet as already been shipped to bike shops in canada…a week ago…they were available. i do have one but it will take longer before shops actually have stock as they go away very quickly…

i would think the us most have some also… but you better have good connection with a shop or a rep to get the first few…

Which year?

My question is, how do these things keep showing up in races? Last week I saw quite a few at the NYC tri. Where are people in the US getting these things?

easy… you guy a european version and put a CSPC certification sticker at the end of the tail like they are suppose to be, not very hard to copy one or scanne one and print it… tons of people acutally ride the euro in the us and if done well, no official will ever see the difference.

I think what people are doing is they are removing the stickers from other helmets, then they stick them back on their GA2 helmet. I like wearing an Aerohelmet, but I am not willing to take a risk of wearing something which doesn’t even pass the minimum standards. Also, I would imagine these people run the risk of negating their insurance coverage by USAT if they crash in a race and they purposefully defrauded race officials to wear an illegal helmet.

What was worse at NYC, others wearing illegal aerohelmets or seeing a living legend of triathlon drafting in the elite amateur wave?

I don’t wanna talk about that.

As for the helmet…yeah, that doesn’t seem right. I don’t mind taking my horse testosterone or injecting my dog’s blood-but I will NOT use an illegal helmet.

Though, they are pretty. Looks are important–I remember Jonnyo talking about how he switched because he didn’t like the way his Rocket “looked” even though in the pics it looked like a perfect fit on his head/back. The best part about this was the thread the week before where he got into it with Andy Coggan about how pros are very knowledgeable when it comes to the “science” behind equipment choices. That was classic!

Jonnyo, i’ll take one in white from the Bike Barn. Thanks!

I’ve had a long standing order with all3sports for this helmet. They called me yesterday to confirm that I still wanted it and that it would definitely ship in mid-August. The colors are different now than the originals posted but they are definitely US certified and are really going to be available. The “new” colors are on their website.

i would never support the fact of putting fake stickers on a helmet to use it but also, it s not because the helmet dosnt meet the CPSC criteria that it s not safe. The euro standard is very safe and i m pretty sure the north american head are similar to the euro head…so it s just a matter of different standard…

the euro standard is accpeted everywhere around the world and is consider safe to protect head of everyone…but in the usa and canada… that is simply stupid…

but anyway, you are right about insurrance and fraud and someone should focus on getting a certified helmet… and they are available now

i never said anything like that …i m going with the giro because it s a lot smaller…less frontal area and less wind enter inside the helmet…

unless you know the reason on of swtich better than myself… i would think you are making up stuff right now…dont know where you get this… …but i simply go with the giro because it s a lot tighter fit and a lot smaller helmet… the LG is a freaking water melon that act like a parachute as so much air get inside it…

I’m not making stuff up, i’m busting your chops! Relaaaax.

Come to think of it, I saw some of those new colors on people at Coeur d’Alene. Where are people getting these things!?!?!?

I agree that the LG is a water melon, but it looked pretty good on you.

jonnyo,
You’re definitely a lot faster than I on a bike, but I have actually found the LG rocket to be quite comfortable, actually fairly cool on a warm day and fits quite naturally in an aero position … I really hardly notice I have it on. I didn’t think that would be the case when I first started wearing it. My new giro is white/silver when it comes soon. I like giro helmets and have worn them for years with satisfaction. I’m switching just because I think they look more poser friendly … if they don’t, I’ll be back with my LG rocket! I suspect they’re both excellent helmets for their purpose.

look good one me but isnt fast on me…giro does better but is hotter and not as well vent…

I think you should get a black one for Kona. I hear black works very well out in the lava fields…

Inside out sports had a table full of them at LP, the stickers looked pretty legit to me.

You may be on to something. Wesley Snipes told us in ‘Passenger 57’ to always bet on black.

For the record while the Euro standards are good, the CPSC tests are in fact more rigorous. I don’t recall the specifics, but Charlie Crawford explained them to me and I can understand the reasons behind USAT requiring CPSC.

If you have a small or medium mellon you can order from UK shops. Euro version comes in only small and medium. I ordered (paid $20 shipping not bad) but didn’t fit to my gigantic head.

Are you saying the Giro is not as cool (ventilated not in looks) as the LG? The vents look bigger on the Giro so I would have assumed it was better ventilated. Living in Houston is very hot so ventilation is my number one concern.
