I’m taking a bit of a break from ‘real’ biking workouts. Since the beginning of November, I’ve just done a few roller rides (insideride.com), but most have been 10-20 min warmups or recovery spins after a hard day of training. Right now, focus has been on running and XC skiing and I am having a blast doing both, but I’m already getting a bit of “hunger” to get the bike outside…will probably wait another 4 weeks, but good to see the fire coming back already. Probably all the hype around the Tour of California is helping!!! Anyone else in the same mode?
More than ever!!
I bought a new bike in November and have yet to take it outside. Almost 1000 miles on the trainer so hopefully that will pay off when I take that blue tire off!
We consider it too cold to ride if its 50 degrees outside and never ride in the rain. Are we spoiled in California or what? Been riding all winter in 60 degree plus most of the time and only 10 minutes of rain. Not too bad.
I am beginning to really hate my Computrainer. Switching between my road and tri bikes can only add so much excitement to indoor training. Can’t wait to get back up to the Gatineau Park.
Slap on some speedskates and hit the canal…you’ll use the same muscles and won’t get mentally burnt out from too much CT time.

Yeah, my big ski race (Boulder Mtn. Tour) is over for the year, and the new P3 is just calling me to hit the road. Been on the trainer alot, so I’ve gotten almost 750 miles in since Nov. on it. Bummer is the snow is still good and there are a few skate races left, but I’m just not motivated to drive 45 minutes each way to Bogus to ski train anymore. So much easier to ride. Gonna be 47 and sunny tomorrow, so it looks like my first post work road road!
I already started counting the days. Hopefully in 1 month!
Fred.
With a new bike awaiting her maiden voyage, I’ve been waiting a long time for a real ride again.
Sue,
I can XC ski 2 min walk out my front door (classic) or 7 min drive from my office (skate…but limited network) or 25 min from home or work for 200K, so basically it happens 7 days per week. Frankly, I am looking forward to getting out of the cage (car) and bike commuting to work again…so biking is really not about getting off the skis and on the bike, it is more about parking my car in the driveway to that I can use my bikes for transportation…of course, you can talk to me in early April when I bike commute in the rain at 34F and I might tell you biking sucks.
Congrats on the new P3. Just looking at the bike should add 40W to your FTP ![]()

Totally. 42 here today, first time in the forties in a long while and I’m thinking to take the bike out for a little while.
I ordered some new pedals for my tri bike (so I don’t have to keep switching between my road and tri).
2 months away from a race requiring a bike… can’t wait.
Up until this last 2 weeks of warmer weather, I was skiing 5-6 days out of 7 but now I am ready for spring. I was teased last week by a 55 degree day and I rode my bike outdoors finally. So now I am just putting in alot of run mileage at the ski trail in my YaxTracks rather than my Salomon skate boots.
It’s been a long CDN winter. Can’t wait for spring to hit the road. The trainer and Coach Troy just doesn’t quite do it.
Dude, you’ve got a set of $800 rollers that you use for :10-20 warm-up rides…you’re gonna blow your rep as one of the few remaining thifty and sensbile triathletes ![]()
Hopefully the weather turns for you soon, we’ve had a great string of weekends on the coast where I’ve been able to get 3-4 hour rides in!

this must be a triathlete talking because at least in northern cal, roadies look at rides involving cold and/or rain as simply an excuse to put on an expensive riding jacket.
I know about the rollers being used for recovery and warmups only right now. They were used last year to do some actual winter riding for St. Croix. This year, I just felt that mentally it would be good to take a break from biking and swimming workouts. Heck, I don’t XC ski in the summer and do just fine come winter, so I thought I would go back to what I used to do, which is park swim and bike training for a few months so that I could mentally recharge and get really motivated about riding. I am sure that some of the early season events will have sub par swims and rides, but I think the payoff is in Aug and Sep, where the riding fitness starts coming around…plus I have a smackdown with Murphy’s Law at Timberman which is the only thing of importance on ST, and I can’t afford to peak in June or July ![]()

What’s a rain jacket:)
After being off the bike 2 weeks post-crash, I’m back on the rollers, but want to ride outside!! So yeah. Itchy.

I’ve got the expensive riding jacket, and riding in rainy 40-something degree weather still sucks. Today, however, looks to be spectacular! Just got back from masters and I’ll be out on the bike enjoying the first sun in a week shortly.
something only lucky southern californian’s don’t need to own!
