How long would one expect to be back to pre cold race pace/energy levels for a mild summer cold?
A couple of weeks ago after a hard hour of riding through and off in a small breakaway during an evening crit I came down with a nasty sore throat on the drive home. I used Vicks 1st defence and did lots of salt water gargling which seem to reduce the symptoms that the rest of my family had and stopped it becoming very snotty or a cough developing whcih as an asthmatic often happens. Unfortunately I was racing a team sprint tri relay on the Sunday so against my better judgement raced - if it was an indervidual race I probably wouldn’t have. Although I didn’t feel 100 percent I got round though my time was a little disapointing - though having rested up since tuesday my legs were rather stiff. This week I did some easy rides, swims and runs until the end of the week to try to make sure the virus had completely gone. I had a time trial today and feel like the virus had gone decided to ride. I felt ok until near then end when I lost it a bit but managed to clock a personal worse by a huge margin. I am guessing it is the after effects of the cold - though I had a poor week of sleep too. I have a few more races over the next few weeks so would like to end the season on a high - anything I can do to get things back to where they were?
