Getting elevation profile from a route tracker?

I tried a search of the Forum, and didn’t find what I was looking for (doesn’t mean it wasn’t there somewhere, I just didn’t find it).

What I’m looking for is something that will give me an elevation profile of a route from something like mapmyrun or mapmyride, where you input the route on a map and then get a “hound’s tooth” elevation drawing of the route.

I don’t have GPS, nor can I get to the route until race morning (and even then most likely won’t have time to drive it).

Any one know of such a thing? Where would it be?

Thanks!

I’m not sure if it is quite the same kind of site, but check out http://gmap-pedometer.com. It has an elevation option.

mapmyride does have an elevation option; check the settings on the LH side of the page, or just click on the “Show Elevation” line at the bottom of the map. Speaking of those options on the left, the “follow road” option is the one that makes me prefer it over the others…

THANKS! That’s exactly what I was looking for. I thought it did that, but on my computer at work the options didn’t come up. Too cool. Thanks Again!

How to most quickly and easily get a bike route into one of these online route systems:

  1. Use Google Maps new ability to drag suggested routes around to quickly get your route to use exactly the road you want.
  2. Use GMaptoGPX and select Full to get all GPS coordinates for every twist and bend in the road
  3. Copy into clipboard, save as a .GPX file
  4. Remove all and from .GPX file so that the entire route is one track segment
  5. Import GPX file into www.bikely.com. Bikely does a far better job of handling the thousands and thousands of points that can be in the GPX file. MapMyRun/Ride/Tri.com choke once you get to a few thousand points.

In about 3 minutes you can have 100-200 mile rides loaded into bikely.com, complete with elevation profile and exact distance as all bends and twists in road are covered. It’s awesome!
