Getting cold in a race on a hot day

Is this a sign of anything in particular? This happened to me recently…was a really hot day but I was getting cold…well my body was, but my head wasn’t.

The beginning of dehydration and eventually heat injury. I live/train in Florida and get chills pretty regularly when I start to get dehydrated in the summer. It’s pretty weird because it’s usually 90 degrees and up when it happens but taking in fluids clears it up.

Could be you’re getting sick or running a fever. I did a race a few weeks backs and was freezing after the race, it was in the mid 80’s and sunny. I had to wrap up in towels and blankets to keep warm waiting on awards. Went home was running a 99-100 degree low grade fever. FWIW I felt flat the etire race- had no pop at all and still placed second in my AG and was 10th OA.

It’s an early sign of heat exhaustion which can lead to heat stroke.

Yeah, that’s the beginning of heat exhaustion. I remember doing a long brick about a year ago and on the run it was midday and super hot. By mile 3 of a 4-mile post-ride run, I started getting chills. I knew it was heat exhaustion (which can lead to heat stroke) and guzzled ice cold Gatorade when I got back to my car and then poured a bucket of water over me. I was fine within a minute or two after that.

As others have said, early stage of heat issues. Do what you can to cool yourself off, or you’re courting some serious problems later on.
