Getting bike back into Canada from Kona?

I just got a spot at IMC to the big show on Oct 15th. I’m thinking of flying there with my bike on the plane (Harmony then Aloha and they seem to have reasonable policies on bike boxes). We’re spending a week there and in Honolulu after the race so I want to ship my bike home via fedex or ups or whoever. I’ve heard horror stories of getting your bike back into canada and then having to pay import duties on it levied by our dear Canadian Customs Officers.

Any experience or expertise on this?

Thanks, Graham

I think that you can do a customs declaration showing that you owned the bike prior to leaving the country which should eliminate any problem with customs. I’ve never heard of anyone getting dinged by customs for shipping their own bike across the border. I found it easier to just travel back from Kona with my bike case last year although I wasn’t staying any extra time.

Way to go Graham! You had a smoking race, and you must be thrilled to make it to Kona, after all of that hard work.
