Get these people some protection

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/hostage_shooting

Sorry for the loss to all these families. Nothing mentioned about the fact that if maybe just one of these people had a concealed carry this might have ended with a little less carnage.

These three guys had the ability to carry unconcealed and they still got shot. Maybe its time you find another solution…

For those that espouse the “let the cops take care of it” philosophy, I offer this exerpt from the article:

“Police heard no gunfire after they arrived but waited for about an hour before entering the building to make sure it was safe for officers”.

There’s a saying… “When seconds count, the police are only minutes away”. Perhaps that should be amended to hours away.

Well, that was relevant. http://www.combatcarry.com/vbulletin/images/smilies/vol_1/blink.gif

easy fix…on every domestic call, just send in the swat team because you never know when someone is going to shoot you thru the door, wall, window…

It was in response to the OP’s comment “maybe just one of these people had a concealed carry this might have ended with a little less carnage.” The OP used the Binghamton incident as his basis for turning this country into a Billy the Kid version of the wild west, I used the Pittsburgh incident to show that having a gun and receiving recurring professional training may not provide the level of protection some think it does.

Ya but they were only shot not killedBIG DIFFERENCE.

You do kknow these officers were taken by surprise dont you. just like the persons that were the first to be shot in Pa. Now, if a person had a CW permit and a weapon in another part of the building, they could have taken “defensive” actions to protect themselves and others…

Would you rather die fighting or screaming like a bitch???

Plan B: Immobilize all occupants then cuff. Then ask, ok. people what the hell is the proplem here? Give them the Maranda speech then their assses off to jail.

Also, you do notice in these situations, that these people target places that are “GUN FREE ZONES”…

With my CW, I abide by the law and dont take my weapon were I am not supposed too. Now the bad guy, well, thats why he is a criminal!

Everybodys a hero until shells are hitting the ground. If packing what percentage of people in this country would be able to unholster their weapon without Plaxicoing themself in the leg and then have the balls to seek out the gunman. Sorry but most people would lock themselves in the boiler room/closest with the unarmed survivors and wait for the cops, which in this case would not have saved any lives and may have wound up with either them being shot by the police when they raided the building or them shooting a cop when he opended the door.
The risks of everyone carrying just do not equal the rewared of POSSIBLY saving a life when a gunman opens fire. I think the result of the “Driver bites Cyclists ear” story would have been much more grusome had both been carrying.

good for you, you explained “defensive” action pretty good…I didnt say anything about hunting down the perp…Not something I would do, even when armed. Unless of course I am roaming around Afghanistan or Iraq, then most of the time it is my job to HUNT bad guys… I would hole up behind something sturdy, and protect and cover the access point to my positon!

Read it before you post a dumbass reply

Or maybe if guns weren’t so easy to obtain in the US, there would have been nothing to protect them from…

Didn’t Dr. Seuss write a book about this very thing?

There was a mall shooting, I’ll have to look up where, that a guy had a conceal carry and drew his gun, said something a la cop show style and the shooter killed him without even hesitating. Have there been cases where a hostage was able to kill the gunman because they had their own weapon?

I’m not convinced arming everyone is the way to stop violence.

yes, there has been several…but we all know the media wont print those stories…they like to see guns as bad and not good…

church shooting last year…female pulled out her weapon and dropped the perp.

burger king robbery…customer shoots robber, but customer was also wounded…robber dead and no free burgers for him…

robbery in progress in Fl, customer with CW walks into the robbery in progress, shoots perp dead…another one for the good guy!

Like I said, that building in NY was a federal building, most likely, no weapons allowed, so the law abiding citizen leaves his/her weapon at home while the bad guy brings his…I would say 99% of all persons that have a CW license play by the rules, thus the reason why we see this carnage…and no citizens shooting back…

I remember the church shooting now. She was a badass.

Works for us in Georgia

Kennesaw, Ga., City Hall
As the nation debates whether more guns or fewer can prevent tragedies like the Virginia Tech Massacre, a notable anniversary passed last month in a Georgia town that witnessed a dramatic plunge in crime and violence after mandating residents to own firearms.
In March 1982, 25 years ago, the small town of Kennesaw – responding to a handgun ban in Morton Grove, Ill. – unanimously passed an ordinance requiring each head of household to own and maintain a gun. Since then, despite dire predictions of “Wild West” showdowns and increased violence and accidents, not a single resident has been involved in a fatal shooting – as a victim, attacker or defender.
The crime rate initially plummeted for several years after the passage of the ordinance, with the 2005 per capita crime rate actually significantly lower than it was in 1981, the year before passage of the law.
Prior to enactment of the law, Kennesaw had a population of just 5,242 but a crime rate significantly higher (4,332 per 100,000) than the national average (3,899 per 100,000). The latest statistics available – for the year 2005 – show the rate at 2,027 per 100,000. Meanwhile, the population has skyrocketed to 28,189.

i thought all you chicks were badasses!

We only see the bad that dumbasses with guns do, we never get to see the good that is done. There is a good book out there that was written by this liberal professor. It was about guns, states with CW laws, etc. he was hoping to find that there would be this “wild west” concept happening after people starting carrying weapons legally. He found the opposite to be true…

That would work awesome in NYC and DC!

I do wonder what the tipping point is. At what point are there enough guns in the hands of the “good guys” to outweight the guns in the hands of the “bad guys”.

I think you would be surprised at how many people do have guns. its those crazy few that give them a bad rap…its like a vehicle, put in safe hands all is good, but on occassion you have the dipshits that like to race, drink and drive, or whatever…
