Maybe that’s why is dead - no one could find “'Maize ’ Landing”
I am reading Infinite Jest.
This book seems to be an especially poignant meditation on 80s and early 90s culture.
It’s funny that we are being nostalgic about that era now.
It was a pretty f#cked up era.
And, I suppose, we are/were pretty f#cked up people as a result.
No, my dad never lived it down. in addition, he got a blue ball for christmas.
I think that’s the same Christmas I was given the 6 Million Dollar Man action figure. Thought it was so cool I took it to show-and-tell first day of school where I promptly lost the little bionic square out of his bionic arm. I made Mom look everywhere for it. I still think about it!
My friend got the Evil Knievel that same year and we used to make ramps for it out of Hot Wheels tracks. It was surprisingly tough and survived many epic launches. Good times!
I got an Erector Set for Xmas
I forget what I was trying to build but it wasn’t working out as it should’ve been
When my younger brother asked how it was going, I threw what I had at his head in anger & frustration
There was an immediate trip to the ER
Nearly took his eye out
My hair isn’t that dark anymore … otherwise ![]()
Not sure how I feel about Gen X being referred to as Antiques.
That is incredibly accurate - especially the outfit.
I especially appreciate that they used The Replacements, vs. The Ramones, or The Misfits, or Dead Kennedys, or someone else easily found at Hot Topic
The only thing missing is the dude grabbing his kid’s skateboard or BMX bike and saying, “I used to ride all the time and didn’t wear a helmet”, followed up by the inevitable trip to the emergency room with a broken wrist. All the while his wife warning him not to try it.
Gen X aging is surreal and really fucking funny sometimes.
I definitely recognize a few of those names from back in the day when I would anxiously await the newest version of “BMX Action” and “Freestylin’”…
I remember making mix tapes by diligently waiting for you favourite song to come on the radio, having a tape in the recorder at the right spot and being quick on the record button.
Burned many CDs when that was an option. Had a mini disc player for a while. Those were actually pretty awesome.
I remember recording Pearl Jam Self Pollution Radio in 95
