Geez what happened to *somebody* (spoiler)?

What a nightmare.

My guess:

First crash: Pushing hard, wanting to keep his podium place in the GC. Slid out in a corner.

Second crash: Mad about the first crash, not thinking clearly.

Flat tire: Man, that’s a bitch.

We knew he was going to get his butt kicked by Ullrich, but now I just feel bad for the guy. All that misfortune just added a lot of insult to injury.

I would like to know what was with all the bike changes…poor dude, wanted his rear wheel in right…and they took it out - then got another bike!!!

I have done that in the past - one thing goes wrong, then it all does. This is the second person this tour that happened to.

Just in case someone was not watching live this morning you might want to put “spoiler” in your title.

My guess, he was extremely nervous about the stage and maintaining enough time to stay in 3rd. And when it starting going bad he lost his concentration and things just went from bad to worse.

Damn - SWEET Ride! MR2 with a STYLIN SPOILER!

What happened to Rasmussen?

Armstrong.

Key word here, SPOILER
.

Do people post breaking news here? If you don’t want to find out who wins what stages, keep your computer/radio/tv off.

Seriously, if you go to ESPN.com or listen to the news at the top of the hour you are going to find out what happens.

message line spoiler, putting it in the body is OK
.

He deserves it!

He started to become a cocky Chicken after his stage win when he built that big gap in the Polka and placed himself second in the GC.

Chronologically from that point -

  1. He became a Scandinavian hero overnight and it all went to his head. Press conference interviews he was even claiming that he was the man to beat Lance. That’s a downer cuz psychologically he knows he shouldn’t shoot his mouth off (bad for self esteem) and also has put himself on a fragile pedestal to live up to a tenuous position he has placed himself in. Unecessary pressure. Those who understand about the power of the subconscious mind may see where I’m coming from. He did not act like a champion and therefore in his heart he knew he would not perform like one.

  2. The following stages he was able to stick with the peloton losing only a little time and keeping his GC spot. But he knew how much effort he was putting just to save face for his previous comments. Watching Vino, Ullrich, Basso, George and others and especially Lance perform with so much less effort also ate into his confidence. To make matters worse he dug his grave a little deeper when he claimed he never really put in effort into TTs and now that there’s incentive his performance would be something a lot different, as if we could expect to see a TT progeny or sumpthin. Against hope he knew he was cashing checks his body couldn’t deliver.

  3. By the time he got to the TT he was ready to fall apart. Wouldn’t at all be surprised if he didn’t get any sleep the night before. Unecessary pressure he and his big mouth put on himself. Puncture aside, you tell me Chicken can’t go down hills and corners quickly? In that breakaway he had no trouble swooping down the extended winding mountain slopes with fluidity and ease. In the TT he was screwed in his own mind. How many riders started? Only one Chicken rode the way he did.

His result, exactly as I predicted in a few of the threads here. As I had said immediately after his interview to the Danish press, he should have just said that he would continue to try his best and then simply focus on the task at hand to deliver his best no pressure, he may even have got a podium. The moment we had that interview I said he’s done himself in. Others in support said he was just showing his confidence.

Well fellas, Rass’s TT today …there’s your confidence. Time the little fella eats some Humble Chicken Pie. If he continues with this self destructive behaviour, this is his career peak right here …getting the Polka Dot but falling into the ditch, arse over tit, like a kid trying to ride a bike for the first time.

Jern, It really isn’t an option at this point. This has been hashed out over and over the past couple of years and word from the BIG (The Owner) man on the list is that you HAVE to put Spoiler in the title.

So please make sure that you (lasttri) edit your post.

…and yes there are plenty of people here who want to watch the video tape/Tivo without having heard the news about somewhere first.

Well, since you’re new to the forum, please take this as a positive comment and not a flame:

The rule in this forum is to post “Spoiler” in your thread when it comes to results, and also to leave any spoiler info off your subject line.

This is a tri forum, not a sports news web site. People come here to discuss a variety topics, and many don’t have access to TV coverage until later in the day, and prefer to not know the results of a particular event like the Tour. This should not exlcude them from other topics on the forum, however, so out of courtesy, we try not to ruin it for them.

Welcome to the forum - stick around and you’ll see it’s a great place.

“Do people post breaking news here? If you don’t want to find out who wins what stages, keep your computer/radio/tv off.”

Yes people post breaking cycling news here, and all you have to do is spend three seconds typing “Spoiler” in your title so that if someone is at work or hasn’t gotten to see the coverage yet, they can still look at the forum without mssing the action later. This isn’t new.

well said JM…for the record my post wasn’t meant in a harsh manner or as a flame.

One of the worst performances in tour history.

damn you’re right. I sorry

A meltdown of epic proportions…my GF was relaying the “play by play” while I was in the shower getting ready for work—told me about the first crash, then I saw the flat, heard about the change of bike, then another, then another crash…it was painful to hear and will no doubt be painful to watch on replay.

(Baseball reference coming): Let’s hope he doesn’t become the Atlee Hammaker of professional cycling…

Well I guess rules are rules, but the title of the thread itself pretty much announces that it’s a spoiler.

you may want to delete rasmussen from the title…otherwise, it’s still a spoiler…
