Gearing up for Virtual Semi-Epic Camp #2

Is our second virtual training camp still a go? Thought I remembered it being from April 7-11. I’m preparing for it, which simply means that I’m trying to keep my schedule open to get in a couple of big bike rides. It will be hard to get in a workout on Sunday due to Easter (big day with church and family), but I’m planning on doing some good training between Wednesday and Saturday.

Are we still on?

I’m out. Girlfriend’s birthday, friends wedding, and I just got my Pose books, so my run is going back to square one (which it only left a few weeks ago

I’m afraid someone else will have to volunteer to bring up the rear.

I’d love to participate but I’m just about to start my taper for WTH.

I’ll play along and see how the numbers stack up despite tapering though.

Slowman, is there a virtual camp around Memorial Day weekend, or am I getting this confused with something that Francois (i.e. not Chabaud), proposed ? For the moment I am in “doughboyland” resting up with <6-7 hours per week of light stuff after a tough XC ski season. Tri training begins in earnest on April 18th, giving me 9 weeks to get ready for the Muskoka-Tupper Lake Half Ironman-Peterbourough Half Ironman 3 races in 4 weekends stretch ! if any of you slowtwitch guys are going to be there, see you out on the course.

i am totally in. now that i have a bit more work since the inaugural semi-camp, i’m ready to go. and since i’m 1800 miles from home, working out on easter is no problem (in fact, i have a 65 mi road race on easter). i don’t think i’ll be putting up 1500 points, but i hope to get a good number. later

I would like to have a go at it again! I feel after my half-ass effort last month during “semi epic” that I’m due for a strong week+ worth of work. Not to mention I’m planning a big training weekend starting this Thursday 4/8 anyway.

I’ll be in Muskoka for sure this year (love that race) and am considering Petersborough (died there last year) Will depend on how my training is coming along as I’m doing IMLP…(A Priority)

I’m ready for the next round. Wildflower is 1 month away and I am ready to put in some big millage right now. In absence of an official camp, maybe we can organize a virtual camp through the discussion boards. Let me know if you are interested.

Slowman mentioned after the last one that he wanted to do another one this week. I even marked it on my planner at work. I didn’t do a whole lot in the last one, only picking up the mileage over the last four or five days. I thought he would have written something about it since it’s only a couple of days away. Maybe he’s working on it as we discuss this. Anyway, if he does it, I’m ready (or as ready as I’m going to be). I might unofficially start tomorrow morning, especially since I won’t be able to train much, if any, on Sunday. Maybe Dan will mention something about it soon.

Here is his post. I’m in.

Re: Day 7 - Dan’s report

“It would be great if Dan couuld organize another one later in the year”

we’ll have another one in just a couple of weeks, april 7-11. a shorty but goody. much bigger rides. this one we’re now in is sort of a feeder for that one.

then, yeah, we’ll have one or two more later in the year i’m sure.

i hope this makes people aware of how much work you guys do in an epic camp. i think francois is actually doing something like epic camp numbers, in which case people can see what’s in store for them if they step up and become an epic camper.

I volunteer to bring up the rear. Seeing as my point totals will be there any way.

Mine will be near the bottom as well, but things like this are all relative. What’s a lot for me might be peanuts for someone else, and vice versa. So I try to do the best I can given the time I have available. That’s all we can do. I won’t put any impressive numbers, but maybe I can get in a couple of 50-60 mile rides, a long run, some short stuff and a couple of long swims. But things like this motivate me to do a little more than I usually would, to find that extra hour here or there (usually in the pre-dawn hours) that will spike the point totals for the week. This kind of stuff is highly individual.

Check the main page…Dan has posted an article on this.

I should have never questioned our fearless leader . . .

I won’t be able to do the double centuries, and may not even be able to do a single century. But maybe I can do more than usual. That’s the goal anyway.
