Hi!
I am going to stay near Vence , France for a week in July and plan to take my bike with me and to climb the Col de Vence. Can someone tell me what gearing I should use on my bike? (I am rather the slim legged, high cadence type of biker).
Also any recommendations on bike -routes in the area would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you!
regular gearing…55-44 and 11-23…
Note: I am not a slim legged high cadence biker
Seriously, if you have a regular road setup 53-39 and 11-23 is plenty.
39-21 should do and the 23 as a bail out gear.
Forgot to answer the ‘where to ride’…well, everywhere!
You can go over the Nice course, Roquesteron, Gilette etc. Around Opio, if I remember well, you can find some short steep climbs as well, if you want to ride REALLY long you can go towards the ski station in Isola 2000 (about 220km round trip from where you are)…the possibilities are endless…one of the best areas where to ride.
One thing: although riding along the sea is really nice off season, in july, forget it…that’d be asking for a lot of trouble, and along the beaches, you’d be truly risking your life with people getting angry because they are driving at 3mph at best…
I danced up it in a 34/23 compact. Worked perfect. Check it:
Thank you for the answers !
Might go for Tom’s recommendation - might be better suited for my slim legs :-).
Hopefully I have something interesting to report when I come back.
