Gearing for Small Texan Tri

Anyone that has done the Small Texan Triathlon (Olympic Distance), what gearing did you use? I am in the Florida panhandle and race an 11-21 cassette with 52/42 on the front (650c Wheels). I was thinking about going to a 12-25 or 12-27 on my cassette for the “Hill Country”. Any input is appreciated.

Thanks

Do you mean Tall Texan Tri. At any rate if your fairly strong on the bike your present cassett is probably good especially with 650 wheels. I did the old Texas Hill Country Tri(long course) and didn’t need anything smaller than 53x19 with 700 wheels. This race was in the Canyon Lake area. I plan on doing Texas State Tri this march which is in the same area and I have 53/39, 12-23 with 700 wheels.

Good Luck It’s a fun area to race in. mike

I haven’t done it, but buddies of mine in the San Antonio area are using 12-25’s with 650 wheels and 53-39 chainrings.

No, the Tall Texan Tri is a little later in the year and it is a half ironman distance. There are four races on Boerne Lake…the Tiny Texan, Small Texan, Tall Texan and the True Texan triathlons.

dont forget the Y100 tri at Boerne: swim, run, bike. Nontraditional format, good food, cool lizard awards, and rain, rain, rain.
