Wonder if anyone else has this problem. If you’re eating your lunch, move on. You’ll thank me.
Every time I run, roughly 40 minutes in every time, I have to use the can, with explosive resluts. It just started happening about 3-4 months ago, and as far as I can tell, it isn’t as a result of some diet change. Nothing affects it…when I eat, what I eat, if I drink water or Gatorade, if I’ve visited the can already (last time it happened I had already had a trip 10 minutes before I ran).
Anyone else have this problem? Any ideas for a cure? I’d really prefer to be avoidin a bio-disaster this summer when I race.
Hmmm, well, in the most rudimentary terms, there is something in there trying to get out. Also, because of your comments using the word, ahh, err, “explosive” that sort of infers that there is some fermentation taking place in your colon- at least that is a rudimentary explanation of it.
That is a chemical, digestive reaction that produces intestinal gas. The gas can be trapped by fecal compaction, unusual twists in your colon or other blockages.
If it is pretty chronic it is worth going to the G.I. specialist.
The likelyhood may be- although bear in mind I am no doctor here- that it is just a combination of the wrong foods prior to exercise. Foods high in fiber and also lactose sugars such as dairy may produce G.I. distress in some athletes.
It is more common than you think. I had stomach probelms for about two years that were result of things not related to exercise. It sucked. It’s fine now, but I learned a lot in dealing with it.
I have experienced this some, but for me I think I can trace it back to a bad food choice in the day prior to the run. It usually happnes to me, like you said, well into the run and then I am fine. For me, it has not happened in a race which I can’t explain. Happy though! You say it isn’t the result of a diet change but maybe you can log your diet for a while to see if you can find something that maybe causing it. Maybe try changing your diet a little?
