Gary Hall's Swimming myth thread

This post is one of the best threads and discussions I have read on ST in recent months. Is there a way that they can be linked together as they are posted? I think members will want to refer to them, quote them, and re read them throughout the season. I realize that the search feature is available, but I think the original posts and discussions are some of the most informative on ST and the info shouldn’t be buried.

There are MANY, if Dan was to link to them (and I doubt he will) we would first have to give the initial credit to Doug Stern.

I agree, which is why I asked about linking Gary Hall Sr.'s 10 myths. I don’t want them to be lost. If someone just came over to ST and they were new to the sport, they wouldn’t be able to find Doug’s posts, unless someone else linked over to one.

There are already articles on the subject under training, so why not just group some of the best threads and have a link?I agree, Doug’s posts should be there as well, and probably some others.

Gary Hall and Barry P should be permalinked.

Right up until someone tells him off and claims he does not know shit…like the time a guy was telling the poster known as “Gerard” that he did not know shit about aerodynamics…or when some other poster was giving running advice and traning tips to a guy posting as “Bjorn”. I still miss the "Why I am racing Timberman" post…

Who is Gerard?

That could be a separate link for “what not to do” on ST. I think I might have a post in there.

Exactly…where there is great information posted…it is always wrong.
.

Chip, great idea…start a sticky thread on what not to say on ST…

Wouldn’t work. You can’t stop determined Jackassery!

Some one recently called out G.H. Sr. and asked what his swimming background was. (Gary was trying to promote an instructional video).

my first thought was… ‘oh no you didn’t’ (but spoken in an ebonics kind of way)

I’d like to see Slowman offer GH to do this as an article.

I asked Slowman that with regards to the BarryP stuff. He said he’d talk to
his staff, but nothing came of it, so it seems unlikely.

Garry obviously knows his stuff, but he also had some crazy stuff in some of
his firsts posts here.

We will have nun of that.

The best way to handle this stuff is to simply do it at the grass roots level. I’ve toyed with the idea of grabbing some of Doug Stern’s articles and sticking them in my list of my running threads. It’s little harder for new people to find out about, but it won’t be long before someone say’s “BarryP has them all saved here,” or "search R10C and look for the link in his sig-line"etc.

A lot of forums will do it as a sticky, which is at least a little less of an “official endorsement” than a link on the home page, but it still makes the information easy to find.

I’d be more than honored if any of my stuff ever got that kind of recognition, but I’m not surprised that it doesn’t. Having my stuff linked would be like having page on a major league forum about a guy who is a really good low level minor league coach. The advice may be good for people just hoping to make the minors some day, but this forum is run by major leaguers. Lets just say that Slowman isn’t just going to let any band play at his wedding ; ^ ).

we’d have to have, like, a “sticky forum”
.

Some of you may be interested in the Aqua Notes posted on our www.raceclub.com website. They go back to 2005…some technical some just stuff…but all potentially interesting to chlorinated brains.

Gary

I think these threads as well as yours just need formatting and then they
could become articles. The obvious example of this is Tom A’s stuff on
tire pressure got incorporated into an article.

But yes, the grassroots method may simply be what Dan wants.
