Hi all! I’m VERY interested in the Garmin Vectors. There is not much information on them - does anyone know of any discussion of them and their quality / accuracy/ usefulness in training with power. Obviously they’re quite the investment at $1,400 but, not bad with respect to ‘power’.
I’m curious how they’ll play with my 310xt and uploading power data to TrainingPeaks etc. I very much plan to personally find these things out and blog my results, however, I’m interested in knowing any preliminary sneak peak or even speculation - at this point.
I plan to get a pair. I’ve been using a wired Powertap for a few years. No real problems. But I’m forced to choose between racing with the power meter, or using my disc wheel. So the flexibility in using whatever wheel you want was probably the biggest factor. I could do the same if I bought a crank-based power meter, like Quarq, but I have also been doing some swapping between standard and compact cranks. So a pedal-based system would give me the flexibility. Most people, however, just use one crankset. If you do a search, you’ll see lots of arguing about whether it’s easier for the average Joe to move a crankset from one bike to another or a set of pedals from one bike to another. You would probably get used to either one. I think the Vectors are a bit less expensive than Quarq is. I’ve been using Garmin watches for years now (405 and 310xt) and have been satisfied with them. So the Garmin name was also a factor in my decision. Good luck.
I’m getting a pair. I’ve got a lot of bikes with different cranksets and lots of wheels that I like. With the Vectors I’ll have power and get to keep using all my stuff. Switching pedals is easy.
I’m pretty sure I’ll get some, I have a quarq on my TT bike but unfortunately my road bike (a Wilier) is not compatible with it, so I need something I can use on both bikes and dont want a powertap (I use a bunch of different rear wheels for racing/training), this seems like the best all-around option (although would prefer if they did a Shimano version)
.
Great! I’m glad I am not the only one. I hope TrainingPeaks will have right left power file format upload and parsing worked out.
This will be my first time training with power, so I’m quite excited about the product. Logically it makes more since to me to measure at the pedals over wheel hub. So this is my choice. Also the easy swap and Garmin name are an easy decision for me! Though I do wish they were in the 5-800 dollar range!
I’m going to crank up my blog soon and be talking about my personal training experience with them.
I read the accuracey is 5% verses 1.5 for PT and 2 for quarq…
Also in anyone cares, i found the answer to my question. Q factor is 55. I think most are 53,
