Garmin Swim (2)

Is there any reason, advantage to getting a Garmin swim if most to my swimming is in open water. Based on what I can see from the manuals, you have to enter pool size, and it counts strokes and laps. Is there any way it can calculate just straight distance?

Swim Tracking (openwater):
I wanted to call out specifically that this unit will not track outdoors in openwater. The reason being it doesn’t use GPS, but rather an accelerometer to understand when you’ve hit the wall at the end of each length of the pool. If you want both indoor pool and outdoor openwater tracking, you’ll need the Garmin FR910XT instead.

the garmin swim does not have GPS. At best it’ll record stroke data over time, but not have a clue about distance.

My bad. Guess I need to read : ) was thinking the 910 for some reason. Thanks for the correction
