Garmin questions

e-mailing @ the garmin website, but I would like to hear how things work for those here.

  1. I don’t have a serial port on my laptop–anybody had any problems/success using a serial/USB adapter to connect.

  2. when I try to open up the log book my laptop says that it is not a valid Win32 application. . .What the heck does that mean?

  3. Any concerns with road vibration? I don’t have the handlebar mount yet, but it seems to fit well diagonally at the stem/handlebar junction.

I have been too lazy to do the software thing, but as far as road vibration, the Garmin is pretty tough and seems to be able to handle abuse well. The handlebar mount was worth the investment, and pretty cheap at amazon.com at Christmas time.

Did you get the Gekko? I have the Forerunner and I really like the rechargeable battery.

got the forerunner for my b-day last weekend–I’m on call this week at work, so I can’t use it on the road until this weekend.

Fiddling with it at my desk just ain’t cutting it.

I got mine for Christmas and first tried it out in the car. You should see how many calories you can burn when you’re driving on the freeway! ; P

It’s a cool gadget - enjoy!

Have used the serial/USB adapter no problems so far.
Am running Windows ME and logbook has worked just fine.
No idea abount the WIn32 app notice.
Used it on my bike with no problems. When and if you can make sure you download the software upgrades for the Gizmo itself it will solve some problems I encountered early on.

Good Luck

Hey Rocky, check out these guys: www.cycoactive.com for all your Garmin stuff. The Garmin bike mount will break, probably sooner than later, and cyco has lots of mounts for all GPS’. Look for the Keyspan serial adapter, it’ll be your best bet.

good new about the adapter–knew they worked for PDA’s and camera’s, but wasn’t sure if it would make any difference.

I have the device updates downloaded will go out and buy an adapter at lunch.

now if I can get the logbook to open it will be all good.
