So i’m doing my first IM this weekend and the GF wants to be able to track me so she can roam around while i’m racing. i am looking at getting the garmin gtu 10 but im not too sure because i dont think i’ll use it for anything else after this race. any ideas? worth it or not?
That is a price vs benefit decision that only you (or your girlfriend) can make.

I just spoke to Garmin on Mon. about this. It costs $199 and comes with 1 year service. The guy told me to look around, i.e. Amazon, etc. for a lower price. After that, it is $50 a year. I was thinking of using my Iphone, but raelly didn’t want to carry it while running. I’m probably going to buy the Garmin unless Myathlete or whatever that other companany is responds to my email. I’m not prdictable enough to just tell my family “I’ll finish the bike between 6-7 hours and 5 to 5 1/2 hours on the run” My wife seems happy with buying something. So much, that she asked if that’s what I wanted for Christmas. I said “sure”
There is a company out there that rents this technology for races so you don’t have to buy it for one race. I forget the name, but I’m sure if you google it it’ll come up…

i just heard about myathlete.com and the cutoff for anything this week was 2 weeks ago… if i can find a garmin gtu somewhere in panama city before saturday, i may pick it up. unless someone has one the wanna let me borrow.

Isn’t it against the rules to carry a phone anyway? Certainly wouldn’t want to be DQed because of it.
