Garmin forerunner 305 mount on a tri bike

I’m looking for some good ideas on how to mount my forerunner on my tri bike…

Yeah i’m trying to figure that out on the wife’s as well…

In my shop days, I actually rigged something by extending the zip ties into one long strip, and then wrapping them in an X-pattern around the bar clamp… it was kind of bush league, but it worked.

I’m thinking for my wife’s bike, I’m going to get one of those cheap plastic aerobar computer mounting knobs. If I recall correctly, the one i have on my bike is actually called “The Knob”.

Do a search for this topic. There are several ideas with pics.

you can wrap it around yours WRIST

=)

also if you have a water bottle holder between your aero bars like you are supposed to

you can wrap the watch around that, orients it perfectly
.

Dont use garmins supplied “bracket” in their “multisport kit” it was cleverly designed to hold the 305 until you get up to full speed, hit a pothole, then eject the unit going really fast so it is utterly destroyed. Ask me how i know. 2x.

That design reminds me of the profile design aero drink in some ways.

Wherein it holds your water until you hit a pothole then ejects your water all over the road.

or ejects the water all over your legs, so you get sticky infini-T leg for the rest of the race…

I used this system and mounted it on a universal computer mount that profile design makes. I mounted the computer mount to my aerobars and zip tied the Forerunner mount to that. Really simple mounting and I’ve been riding with it for a lil over a year now. Never any chance of ejection! It’s so tight in the bracket that I really have to fight to get it out! Only way I could see it ejecting or falling off is when the zip ties become brittle over time. I’ll have to make sure to keep an eye on that…

It comes with a wrist strap too that you can just clip it on your wrist for fast transition. Seriously the best thing I ever bought!

I have the quick release kit and I have switched back to the stock band. I lost my watch a couple times off my wrist with the quick release kit and I can see it happening on the bike as well. I keep my 305 on my wrist with the stock band.

I don’t know what to say then because my forerunner feels like it’s glued to the quick release kit! Seriously I always need to pry the crap out of it to get it off the bracket! Haha! Maybe over time the bracket gets more loose with use? Well over a year and i’ve never lost my forerunner and it has plenty of use. Maybe you had a bad bracket on your wrist?

I’ve been pissed before in transition because I was spending too much time trying to get the damn forerunner off the bike bracket! Haha good times!

In between aero bars with the Polar Mount and the aero bar adapter so it can go sideways http://www.amazon.com/Profile-Design-Universal-Aerobar-Computer/dp/B000F8IXH4

hard to do on tri bars, well, not that hard. the way i did,got some pvc piping, cut it to the width of the extensions, used a dremil tool to cut it to fit the roundness of the bars. drilled a hole in each end and used tie wraps thru the hole and around the bar. Tape it if you like. Got some pipe insulation foam, cut to size for the garmin, put that on the pvc pipe, and then put you garmin on. adjust for view.

I’m with you. The only time mine’s ever popped out of the quick release is when I didn’t have it snapped in properly.

Cut a piece of PVC and drill holes in each end and use a zip tie to secure between aero bars

Agreed, there is no way mine is moving. I have however not put it in the mount properly, and easily pulled it off when I tested that it was secure. Perhaps some have a bad mount, or they just aren’t clipping it in firmly. I always test mine to ensure its secure.

It works great for me, and is a simple solution.

Exactly what I did . Works like a charm.

Secret sauce you didn’t know about:

If you use the standard pins instead of the quick release pins, that thing will launch
so fast you won’t know what happened.

Even though you can’t see a difference between the two.

-Jot “hasn’t launched one since that advice…except once”

To the OP.

Here was my last post on it.

Do not trust the bike mount kit from garmin as has been said before unless rig a backup-foolproof securement system.

I’ve read about other people having trouble with the unit popping out of the bike mount or the wrist mount, but I don’t see mine doing that unless I didn’t get it in there right. Mine is plenty tight and I also fumble with it sometimes in T2 trying to get it off the bike.
