Garmin Forerunner 201 (1)

I was reading my Galyan’s catalog and came across a GPS unit similar to the timex one. The only difference is that the Garmim is only one unit that goes on the wrist unlike the Timex where you have to where the tracking device on you upper arm and a wristwatch. I was just wondering if anyone has one or if they heard any reviews on the Garmin.

Thanks

Interesting product. Especially if you already have a favorite HRM. The link to the info at the garmin site was just posted in a different thread. There are a few available for “pre-sale” on ebay, and it looks like the release date for these will be around the 1st of Dec. according to the ads. There are no specifics about size and weight, though, at the Garmin site. Have to wait and see I guess, but at ~$140, it would be cheaper than the timex?

Actually all the specs are there and you can even download the owner’s manual.

I just ordered one from Amazon ($150). There were two User Reviews posted, both were very favorable.

ugh, missed that the first time, JamesO. Let’s see, the garmin is

Size: 3.26"W x 1.71"H x .69"D

Weight: 2.75 ounces (78g)

I’m guessing the timex unit is about the same size/weight? anyone? This doesn’t seem too big. have to put one of these on my xmas list!

…what this product seems to indicate is that it will only be a matter of time before the current first gereration Timex BodyLink system will become smaller and waterproof (like the Garmin). And, since they already have a HRM… I say the Timex currently has a distinct advantage for the multi sport athlete.
