Garmin Edge 305 for RUNNING?

Anyone ever try running with the Edge? I comparing the Forerunner to the Edge but can only afford one.

Dave in VA

I have an Edge 205 and I run with it either in my fuel belt for long runs or in a pocket in my shorts (gotta love the newer adidas and under armour shorts with the rear waist pockets). It would be nice to have a wrist strap, but it works fine.

If you choose the forerunner you can use this mounting bracket to attach it to a bike:

That is the setup I use with my Forerunner 301 and it works great! The quick release mount can even be rotated 90 degrees to allow mounting on a stem.

Go with the Forerunner…

my cheap piece of crap 305 doesnt work on the bike, maybe attaching to the bottom of my shoe is a good idea
.

What is wrong with it?

If affording it is an issue, I would say forget it. As far as I can tell, a GPS for runners is so they can measure
how slow they are going.

You may want to go to the GarminF forum on Yahoo Groups. They know everything there.

You can run with the Edge, but it really isn’t as nice as having something you have on your wrist. Garmin has threatened to release a running adapter for the Edge, but I’m not sure if it has ever happend.

Pluses for Edge:

*Barometer is much, much more accurate for mapping small altitude changes. The GPS altitude will be a bit poor.

*The route feature is cool if you ever want to use the unique Geoladders site.

Pluses for 305:

*You can’t beat having the GPS on your wrist for running and checking splits.

I personally consider the GPS much more helpful for running, and would give the nod to the 305. You undoubtably will have a cyclecomputer on the bike, and it is easy to wear the 305 on your wrist while you are cycling. It is also great for racing, as you put it on once at the beginning of the bicycle.

By the way, you simply can’t beat Sportstrack for automapping and logging your workouts. When somebody creates this good of a product, we should all support it. :>)
