Garmin connect or Garmin training Center? Help up load CRS file to 310xt

I have a Garmin GPX and CRS file for the Orcas 50km trail race in Feb 2015 west of Seattle I’m trying to upload to my wife’s 310xt. The 310 isn’t detected when I run Training Center but I can see the option to upload there and I can also see the course on the map which is completely right. The 310 is detected in Garmin Connect but the manual upload gives me a error. Can I still use Training Center with a 310xt or is it no longer compatible. It seems to be according to DC rainmakers site??

I don’t think it’s possible to upload a crs file to Connect. If the gpx file works, you can send it from Connect to the 310XT without any problems. To send it from Training Center, I think you have to have the old ANT Agent installed (obsolete since Connect switched to Garmin Express instead of ANT Agent + Browser plugin). Garmin Express automatically uninstalls the ANT Agent, so they can’t really coexist. The ANT Agent can be downloaded here: http://www8.garmin.com/fitness/ant_product_page.jsp

Another option would be to create the course on Garmin Connect manually and then send it to the 310XT, but that’s of course the least elegant method.

Thanks … but couldn’t I just follow Ray Maker’s lead and use older Training center and ant agent to upload it that way. Just not sure how he connected the 310xt to TC. http://www.dcrainmaker.com/2010/03/how-to-create-mapscourses-for-your.html

Yes, it should work that way, I used to send courses from TC to my 310XT (and later 910XT) using the ANT Agent, as I describe here at the end: http://benj.n69.ch/post/52307928305/turn-directions-on-garmin-forerunner-910xt

You must have the ANT Agent set up properly, i.e., pair it with the watch; then you should be able to send courses with the button highlighted in the blog post I’ve linked.

Thanks! The biggest problem I’m having is getting the 310xt to talk to training center. The ant stick just doesn’t detect it. Can I use the clamps via the USB to connect the two? Looked all over garmin forums but see pointers to get the two to sync.

No, you can only use the ANT stick, the cable doesn’t work. Have you selected “Pair” in the ANT Agent and on the watch? Do the ANT Agent and the watch communicate?

No they aren’t pairing in training center but using the new garmin express they do pair. I’ve uninstalled everything and thinking about trying again after I do a hard reset of the 310xt … Otherwise out of ideas.
