OK, so I have a Garmin ‘classic’ (FR 305), so maybe that influences my thinking. BUT - I really prefer Garmin Connect Classic over Modern. But maybe that’s just old-school me. Modern seems good - if you have ADHD - too many panels, too much info. At least for a FR305 user. What say you, fellow STers?
Classic. Modern doesn’t even work on my older Mac.
Classic is so much easier to use. One problem I have with modern is that when my files don’t upload properly (which happens frequently) there is no place to manually upload from device. I’m sure that it’s possible I just haven’t found it, especially not as easy as classic.
Classic is more intuative iMO, I switched back to it after a month or so on the new…
I’m sure modern has some useful benefits, but my stubborn side likes that I know how to navigate classic and find all the information I need.
Strange that you say that since the modern has more of a apple feel to it.
Ill be sticking to classic as long as its around.

Classic rocks. Compared to say, a moldy apple with worms in it. But still better than ‘modern’. Aren’t modern things supposed to… work?
The iphone app isn’t half bad though.
Quit being a fuddy-duddy and go with the modern. You don’t have to use all the panels if you don’t want.
Garmin express means my data gets uploaded with fewer mouse clicks. I the rare instance it does not automatically upload , flip over to the classic and manually upload.

Expand the Activities page to full-size, top right for upload.

Ah good to know couldn’t find it either. My 800has never once uploaded automatically have to manually upload every time. My 910work fine. The second I plug the 800into the computer I get an error and says can’t upload try again.
Thanks. Nice to know I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t locate this >-(
I have it set to the modern setup… but completely understand you point.
There are still things in the classic that you cannot yet do in the modern connect
The thing that switched it for me, was getting a VivoFit.
Now that I have, it the Modern Connect makes much more sense
I love the new Modern look. I upload my 220 and 200 most days and I’ve never had a problem at all. Compared to my crappy polar i’m loving it.
I have a FR305, Edge300 and FR210 - none of which will upload to modern with my circa 2007 macbook.
Also, whats with the Reports tab on the modern. All it has is graphs - no numerical totals or custom date range. Or i’m missing something obvious here.
When modern works on Opera, I might use it.
Until then I like the option to manually upload and such.
I like the new Modern interface, it’s slowly getting better but still falls short in several critical areas. For example, the pace/elevation/heart rate/power graphs on an activity page are a complete joke. I think they only plot a certain number of data points per chart, so if your activity runs into several hours, there could be more than a minute between data points, even if you use the excruciatingly bad zoom tool. This is a fundamental tool that should work better, but they’re too busy trying to sort out their stupid ‘segments’ features.
To me, it functions as a good back-end repository of data but isn’t much more use than that TBH; thankfully the recent implementation of ‘instant sync’ to other websites means that you can get the data to somewhere with some decent analysis tools.
Garmin Connect obviously has a large established user base (some more tech savvy than others) and Garmin really haven’t helped themselves with this progressive rollout. A lot of features have been implemented under the radar (e.g. manual file upload) so users think features are still lacking when they’re now available. The whole Garmin Express debacle hasn’t helped in the slightest, the ongoing incompatibility with different browsers, OS’s and mobile devices is still pretty poor IMO, but this seems to be the way that they (and others) do things these days, get it out there and let the users highlight all of the issues with it, frustrating as it might be at times.
Classic. Why update it when it worked fine as it was? I guess the Garmin coders needed something to do…
I prefer Classic over Modern. Tried Modern for 10 minutes and didn’t like it at all.
After a little time, I really started to like the modern interface. It seems more intuitive to me (but seeing as how I’m in the minority here, I’m not sure what that says about me).

Common phenomenon in software. Your issue is not as much intuition, but conditioning. It’ll take some time. It took me longer to acclimate to the new Training Peaks than Garmin, but I am using both of their modern interfaces now.
