Garmin and training peaks

I run with a 310xt. When I transfer the data to training peaks it is altered slightly from what was recorded on the watch. i.e. I did nine minute repeats and had the watch set to create ‘laps’ for the repeats and the rests. However when I look at the file in TP it will have 8:56 intervals.
also paces…I can do a straight run and have the watch beep at every 1km and mark auto laps at 1Km…however in TP the laps might be .97Km instead of 1KM.

anybody figure out what I am saying? ir have had a similar issue?

much obliged.

Totally speculation but if smart recording is on it may not catch your laps at the exact distance. The watch knows you wanted 1K laps so that’s what it gives you. TP just calculates the exact mileage (based on existing track points) which comes in slightly different.

Just a guess though from a software guy.

I have noticed this as well, and also my athletes have too. My friend works at TP and I asked him about this last week. He said they just had a company mtg on the topic, and the consensus was something to do with “smoothing” or frequency of data points being collected, if I remember right. He said TP is supposed to be more accurate than the Garmin. I have also noticed differences with vertical rise, pacing, lap splits, etc b/t TP and the Garmin. I don’t really understand what he was saying exactly, and don’t really understand what they mean by the collecting of data points differently. If a watch records the data, why can’t that exact data simply be uploaded to a computer program? There are a number of glitches and quirks I’ve found with TP, but I know they are working on these types of things always. I will call them this week and look into this further, along with other questions I have with quirks.
