Decisions would be a lot easier if these things were cheaper. If you have heart issues, one downside of the current Garmin’s (except the Venue 2) is they don’t have ECGs. They are coming soon to the Epix / Fenix 7 Pros with their Elevate V5 HR monitors, but that is even more cash to layout. I would love to have that on my watch as I currently carry a Kardia Mobile with me on my runs at my cardiologist’s recommendation.
I had an Apple watch for a while and it does a good job of identifying AFib. I ended up going back to an Android phone so I got rid of the Apple watch but it did seem to be pretty accurate, I was in the hospital for a number of days with AFib and the watch kept going off but then when they shocked me back into normal rhythm it stopped giving me a message so I guess that’s kind of n equals 1 though.
I tried the kardia but could not get reliable readings and was often unable to ground it to my leg when doing winter sports when I’m all bundled up so I ended up returning it. I’ve read pretty mixed reviews on those ones that are integrated into a chest strap the fourth frontier I think it’s called.
The best running of my life was recorded with a Casio wrist watch and a spiral notebook. Now I’m shopping for $500 watches to record my slow plods.
