Garmin 910XT Data gone

I’ve had the 910 for a little over 6 months and have had 100% trouble free usage…
…until yesterday.

I download after each session and after yesterday’s I saw that there were only 3 files on the watch; none of witch were from yesterday - or indeed 2014.

I tried to do test workouts afterwards and none would produce a file on the watch.
Checked the cache file for the 910 on the Mac and it didn’t have yesterday’s training file on it either.

Factory reset was the only thing that enabled my to store data on the watch again.
Firmware version 3.0, all Mac software also at latest version.

What is the prevalence of this issue?
Is there a way to mitigate it?

I’ve had Polar for over 10 years of fault free usage and decided to try the Garmin just to check out the competition. I was happy until yesterday and am now thinking of going with the new Polar V800.

Delete all the history from the watch once a month or so. I’ve had great success doing this. Let it fill up, or get close to full, and all sorts of weird issues crop up.

I had a similar issue this weekend. I usually download my workouts once per week. Downloaded on Saturday afternoon. My Mon-Fri AM workouts were fine. I ran 10 miles Friday night and biked 40 on Saturday morning. Those last two workouts both showed +50,000 ft of elevation gain. I tried downloading the files multiple times. Every time it was the same. I updated my firmware to 3.0. After the update, the newest workout on my watch history was from March 8. I have no clue what is going on. I used it on my bike trainer yesterday and in the pool this morning. Will check again after my next outdoor run.

THIS^^^^^

Garmin will start to over write older workouts when the memory fills up and when that happens, weird shit happens. I delete the workouts form my watch about once a week, especially if I’m recording every second. The files are still stored on your HD so you don’t lose anything.
