Garmin 800 or 1000

anyone have the new garmin 1000? or the 810?
I have a 500 and like it. I have no real reason to switch it out. but I like to take some cycling trips and would much prefer to preload the route (especially when out of the country).

could the 1000 also be used as an “in-car” gps?

thanks

The 1000 got a terrible review from dcrainmaker mainly due to several bugs. Garmin has said they plan to release a firmware fix by end of the month. I’m in the same boat as you as I’ve been looking at the 810 and 1000. I plan to wait at least a month to make any decisions.

The 510 is nice, including the smaller size.

Interested as well. I have an old Joule with no gps. Everything I’m reading now is pointing to the 800 as the best value seeing it is easily found for $279 new. The 810’s extra features don’t seem to make it that much better. 1000 is buggy and overpriced. Curious what others think.

I’ve had a 500 and have an 800 and 810.

I use the 800 indoors mostly. When the 810 firmware changes it so the 810 autopauses under 3MPH, I’ll probably sell off the 800.

I prefer the 800/810 because of the mapping. Century rides, races, etc. It’s becoming a given that they’ll put out a route vi gpx file or similar.

The 500 does minor mapping but I really didn’t like it.

I, personally, like the 810 outside because people can track you. When you’ve had previous health issues it allows for some piece of mind and that’s well worth the price difference.

I have had 810 for a few weeks… Mapping is kinda cool and yes I did down load rout to test it out. I always seem to keep it on the data screens … Don’t use the maps. Garmin 500 was perfect for me I guess…
