Garmin 50/405 mac compatibility is here

just want to let you all know that I just downloaded and installed the ant agent on my mac and it works!
intel machines only.

awesome thanks i will try it out tonight…

It’s about F-ING TIME!!! Let’s just hope it works…

I finally got around to installing it. Then changed my mind and was going to continue to use it in windows via vmware fusion. I uninstalled it using cleanapp, but now every time i attempt to connect the ant stick to windows, it locks my MBP up and i have to hardboot it. I have done it 5 times. Looks like its going to be an archive and reinstall this weekend.

I never actually used the application so I can’t speak to how well it worked or not.

The Garmin installer is somewhat naughty. Try removing the kernel extension (driver) : /System/Library/Extensions/SiLabsUSBDriver.kext
And restart before reconnecting the ANT Stick.

man i looked for the kext file, but couldn’t figure out which one it installed. I guess i should have sorted by date. I already did the archive and reinstall and all is well again.

thanks though!

If you sort by date, you will see how long they have been sitting on releasing this :stuck_out_tongue:
Anyway, yeah that’s the driver. To manually uninstall the garmin software you only need to remove that, remove Ant Agent from /Applications, and then go into System Preferences and remove it from your login items. Complicated enough?

If someone has the same problem in the future hopefully they will find this thread.

All is not well, i guess i spoke to soon. I had a kernal panic tonight, i haven’t had one on my MBP in a long time.

No mapping exists for frame pointer
Backtrace terminated-invalid frame pointer 0xbfffdf78
Kernel loadable modules in backtrace (with dependencies):
com.apple.iokit.IOUSBFamily(3.2.7)@0x47910000->0x47938fff

Not sure if its related or not, but i might just reload tonight fresh and restore from time machine.

Weird. IOUSBFamily is what loads that driver (and any other usb driver), so it is certainly suspicious. If you did a clean install though I don’t see how this would happen. Double check to make sure the kernel extension isn’t there. I wonder if you kernel extension cache is causing this somehow (there isn’t an easy way to clear that which I can recall)

Either I’m slow, or I can’t remember how I managed to set up Training Center on my Boot Camp partition. Regardless, I can’t actually get my data off my watch and into RaceDay yet. ANT Agent seems to have paired my computer and watch, and it transfered some data, but can you guys give me some suggestions on getting Training Center up and running? I can’t seem to get it to recognize the watch.

As far as I have been able to tell so far, the Mac ANT Agent only sends data to Garmin Connect, it doesn’t actually do anything with Training Center. I’m guessing Training Center is going to be updated for this soon.

Not too much help there, I’ve got the Communicator Plugin, but Garmin Connect doesn’t seem to see my 405 either. Any other suggestions?

Anyone have any ideas on how to make this work? I have a PPC. I downloaded ANT and the garmin communicator. It will connect and transfer, but it doesn’t seem to link with Garmin Connect, so it transfers the info to nowhere.

Any ideas?

I don’t have any helpful suggestions, but when I saw that it only sends files to garmin online, thats when i decided to back away from it. Fusion did not like backing away from it. I did a clean load and still had problems with fusion. So I migrated my virtual machine to parallels and back in business. Just had to pay to upgrade parallels to the latest version. What garmin delivered already existed, in the training peaks device agent. I don’t know of to many people that use that. People want to use WKO+ or RaceDay. Garmin really missed the mark with not allowing you to export a single tcx file in Training Center for mac.

If you can hold on for a few days I should have some answers on PPC.

My guess is that Training Center is going to be able to take the data from Connect and output TCX, but I could be wrong.
Either way, there is a good chance there will be a solution shortly for making this work with RaceDay and WKO.

Do you work for Garmin? You seem to have insight on their stuff.

No, I’ve just had to jump through a lot of hoops to work with their products.

No idea how I missed this before. Ant Agent is putting TCX files into:
~/Library/Application Support/Garmin/Devices/(your device pairing id)/History/

So you can pull from there and archive, import into other apps, etc.
