Hey, i just got a new 405 yesterday and i was wondering if anyone had any wisdom from their past use that they might have wished they knew when they first got it. Like, anything regarding certain settings or data fields they found useful. I’ve never trained with HR before so its a whole new thing to me. thanks

There are 4 different screens that can display 3 sets of data each (and what can be displayed is basically absolutely anything imaginable!). You tap the bezel to cycle through these. I found 4 to be too many, and was hassled tapping it 3-4 times to change screens. So, don’t feel the need to use all 4, you can just use 2 for example. Then, you have an easy toggle for 6 sets of data (i.e. HR, speed, pace, stopwatch, lap split, avg HR, etc.).
If you just use for running (I do), this is easy. Now, if you are going to use for cycling as well, things get a bit more complicated …
yea, send it back within 30 days and get a 305 ![]()
.
Make sure you turn the GPS function off when you are done with it or when you go to use it the battery will be dead. It sucks that there is no way to turn the entire watch off. That being said I really do like mine.
I have the 405 and really like it as a training tool.
+1 on the battery issue. It is almost a single use and charge situation. I can sometimes get 2 runs out of one charge, but the third run usually kills it.
The bezel based navigation is not very good. I lock the bezel after I start the timer so I don’t have any mis-hits of it. I also set it to auto-scroll.
It really has more data than I’m interested, so I can get by with one screen with total time, pace and distance.
I do set the auto lap for one mile. After every mile it chimes and tells my my time for the mile. Very nice.
Another tip would be to plan to allow the GPS a couple of minutes to find itself after you turn it back on. I’ve started runs with the “locating satellites” screen and things never got running properly after that.
So, enjoy it, even with its foibles.
