I just bought the Garmin 405 and discover it is not waterproof but can “withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes”. I wanted to use this as a race watch from the beginning of the race to the end without having to take it off or on. Will it work for a Sprint to 70.3 races? That would be a max of maybe 45 min swimming. If not, has anyone tried to waterproof it just for the swim leg?
I remember a thread where a bunch of people swam with their 305’s, and it has the same waterproof rating. Now just because it worked for them doesn’t necessarily mean go ahead and do it. I’d hate for my new 405 to be rendered useless because i chose to swim with it.
More importantly, is the battery of the 405 going to last the length if your race? I know that’s the biggest complain of the 405 is the reduced battery life.
