So far, myself and one other person I have read about has had some kind of issue with the wrist band on the New Garmin 310XT. Has anyone else had any problems with theirs? Unfortunately, I was not as lucky as the other fellow, and lost mine.
That SUCKS. Would the 305 Quick release strap work with the 310xt?
Nope. the 310 is more compact and the loops on that band are too far apart. Tried it.
No issue with mine. gone through several swims and several races without any problems.
the pins are much weaker and less sturdy than the 205/305 . mine popped off while mtb’ing when i nicked a tree, luckily i could find all the parts and put it back together
Wrist band as supplied or quick release wrist band?
I can not say i have had any issues with my original band , and i have not used the quick release yet !!!
Which was giving you grief?
It was the wrist band as supplied. Just received a surprise Sunday response from Garmin. Keeping my fingers crossed.
I have no doubt the quick release band would stay on. I just couldn’t bring myself to wear it. Junk.
Just got off with Garmin. They are sending me a new strap with pins and a tool to put it on. Have to say that the customer service at Garmin is very good.

Sorry, what’s the issue? It breaks? It’s not tight? Etc…
The wrist strap pin may not be strong or secure enough. I should have returned mine the day I got and exchanged it for another one as the wrist strap buckle was loose inside the box. The pin did slide back into place and it felt secure, but apparently it wasn’t. Interestingly, the 310 wrist strap does have 2 tabs inside the strap loop that insert into the strap itself when the strap is passed through the loop. This does add a nice bit of security. Unfortunately, it does little if the pin at the body of the watch is knocked loose as evidenced by the 3 instances I am thus far aware of.
Oh, thanks for letting me know. That’s not good for sure, I don’t think having your garmin sink to the bottom of the ocean would make for a pleasant experience. So you got it replaced by garmin but was it a manufacturing defect or a design flaw?
I received my 310XT this morning when the UPS guy came. Now I am afraid to use it on a swim.
Does anyone have any idea of what Garmin is going to do about this problem?
No, they have not agreed to replace it yet. I did have a 3 email exchange with them yesterday which was nice because it was a Sunday. It is now in the hands of a new rep and he is gonna see what he can do. I am still hoping for the best. Aside from that issue, I absolutely loved it and would probably bite the bullet and buy a new one. If I did, I would be far more cautious with it in the water. Stay tuned.
I am exceedingly happy to report that Garmin has agreed to replacement my 310XT free of charge. It was touch and go there for a while. However, I got a call from the Garmin rep a short while ago informing me of their decision. He informed me that that was something they rarely do, but in light of the circumstances, they were making an exception, especially since the unit is so new to the market. Because of my experience and the two others posted here at Slowtwitch, the tech guys might look into it and see if there really is a design flaw that needs to be addressed.
I also have to say, that the customer service with Garmin was top notch. Surprised at the quick responses I received on a Sunday, and pleased with how knowledgeable and friendly the reps were. A+
As for the 310XT itself, I still think it is a remarkable little device, but obviously nothing is perfect. I’ll experiment with the quick release mounting kit that just happened to come in the mail today, and I’ll certainly keep a more watchful eye on it during my swims.
Yep, I had some troubles the first time I put it on…the strap came off three separate times. I now put it on after the swim for the bike and run. I refuse to use it in the water. Luckily it also crapped out on me, so I am getting a new one via REI by the 15th. The watch has been nothing but trouble for me so far.
Awesome news about Garmin and your new watch. It really is a great watch. Hopefully my second one will cover the minor issues of the first.
Great news, I know how upset you were.
Add me to the list - I was 2 steps away from my rack at T1 when I noticed it wasn’t on my wrist. I hesitated, went back, and found it still in my wetsuit - wrist band pin came out while taking off wetsuit.
wow very lucky toby on getting the 310xt replaced.
i second garmin customer service but mine even extends to the GPS car devices NUVI
