Garmin 310xt size

Hi all,

As the title says is the Garmin foreruuner 310xt big. I am thinkinhg of getting one but it looks bulky and heavy. Would I be better getting the 405 or 310xt. I mainly do sprint and oly tris and also some running road races. Any help would be appreciated. Alos if you have a review yourself.

Cheers Alexander

there are tons of threads on this but just get the 310xt, once you use it a few times you can’t hardly feel it. Get the optional removable band and bike mount so you dont have to wear it on the bike.
Its waterproof and is meant more for a triathlete than the 405 which is more just for runners or to be used only during the run part of a tri.
Get it right now with the $50 dollar rebate!

It’s a bit bulky yeah but having intergrated gps in wonderful ( versus forexample Suunto’s ‘icehockey’ to kept in arm) amont the other features, I found original wristband a bit uncomfortable but the QR-kit’s band is rounding wrist a bit more better touch.

I had the 405 and thought it was so much better because it’s pretty, but the 310 (which I have now) is a vastly better watch.

The bezel on the 405 was annoying as hell.

The 310 has better navigation through the watch, and the screens are easier to read and display more information. The feedback while out on the run (or bike) is way better with the 310 because you can easily review more information. Plus the battery lasts way longer.

The size of the 310XT vs. the 405 is actually deceiving, or at least it was for me. The 405 has a smaller main body and display, but one thing to remember is that the GPS antenna is extended past the watch body on either side of the wrist. From my experience, I found that if you don’t have a wrist that is big enough to match the radius of the curved, rigid antenna extension, the fit is quite sloppy. Of course this can be solved by using the fabric watch band, but you’re still left with the antenna extension awkwardly sticking out above the fabric band. However, the 310XT has the antenna built into the main body, so past the watch body there’s nothing but watch band, which can conform to your wrist radius. So despite what people have said about the 405 fitting smaller wrists (with the fabric band), I believe that the 310XT is more versatile with respect to different wrist sizes. And it’s more versatile in pretty much every other way, so in my opinion, it was worth the upgrade.

I have relatively small wrists and I do not find the 310xt too big. I helped my boss get used to his 405 and in using it, I was not impressed compared to what my 310 can do. I wear it during swim and the size has not bothered me. I wear it on bike and rotate it to my inside wrist so I can see details while aero. I wear it during run and have had no problems. I am a details geek and this watch gives me everything I need. My only complaints are 1) even with the software upgrade the 2 OWS I’;ve done did not accurately track my path or distance while on wrist and 2) the grade calculator is very delayed. #2 doesn’t matter, but when I am dying on a hill I want to know exactly why and sometimes it takes a second to catch up.

The 310 is the best performance tool I’ve ever used and while I wouldn’t want it any bigger, the size doesn’t bother me at all.

I have relatively small wrists too and I don’t find it too big.

It took a few times to get used to but I don’t notice it now.

I used to wear my Polar RS400 on the inside of my wrist but haven’t been able to do that with the 310 yet, I wear it on the outside of my wrist for now.

I have the 310 and love it.
I don’t even notice size.

However it is somewhat fragile. I accidentally dropped it from no more than 3 feet and the glass screen cracked. It’s $99 to replace when you’re stupid.

I’m not sure if all garmins have a glass screen. But I sure wish they had used a more durable material.

Other than that, the unit is fantastic.

The other tri option, the timex doesn’t seem to be any smaller.

Yeah, the Timex is actually bigger than the 310XT and the 305.

I have had too many watches/wrist computers to count and my favorite is the 310XT…

I’d question that comment about fragility. We’ve bashed our a couple of times - Louise ran hers into a sign smashing it off the QR mount and bouncing onto the road was probably the worst occasion, without any damage to the face.

I suspect that, like anything, if it lands the wrong way it will break. We’ve likely been lucky. Others not so.
