I’ve used both the 205 and the 305, and I’ve noticed that the distance clocked on the GPS (I use motionbased), is generally .4-.7 shorter than whats clocked on my cyclometer. Does anyone have an opinion on which is more accurate? If its the cyclometer, does that mean my run info is off as well?
0.4-0.7 what units… over how much distance?
I have used my 305 over two “measured” courses of 112 miles and the Garmin was off by 0.0 miles at one and 0.1 miles at the other. Could just be coincidence.
btw, I would think the easiest way to resolved your dilemma is to sneak your bike onto a track some evening. Ride 4 (or 8 or 12 whatever) laps & read the two displays at the end. Maybe they are both off.
I’m asssuming you’re talking about a traditional cycling computer with magnet on wheel - right? If so, I’d say the the distance of the GPS is probably more accurate; although the cyclometer should be very consistent.
The problem with most cyclometers is that if you don’t do a very careful roll-out test, it’s easy to have your wheel diameter off by a tiny bit when you set-up . If you just used one of the default settings, didn’t do a careful roll-out, changed tires, etc. it’s very easy to have your settings off by a few mm here or there. Doesn’t sound like much but even a fraction of a cm can add up when your wheel goes around hundreds of thousands of times.
.4-.7 miles, fairly significant, considering I’ve always heard that the 305 was spot on.
over 28 miles
