Gamin305 or new 450cx

Looking to get my first Garmin. have not found a review here yet for the 450cx. I have a chance to get one for EXTREMELY cheap as well as a 305.

  • First glance is that the 450 look a bit smaller to use for the swim and can get a nice bike mount for it.
  • Have a friend who’s got a 305, as wells as many of you ST’ers do. and the like it.

quick answer is get the 405 if you do mostly running, it’s not that great for multisport (no quick way to switch modes, shorter battery life). The 305 is a better choice for triathlon IMO. The 405 is marketed towards runners. It’s very sensitive to water/sweat as well.

Ditto Matt’s response. I’ve had the 305 since it was first released and love it. Tried to replace it with a 405 but it’s not a great multisport watch. I absolutely love the 405 as a running watch though. I had no problems at all with the touch bezel that others report. My wife now uses the 405 (she’s a runner only) and I got a new 310 about a week ago and am very happy with it.

Thanks guys. I guess its the 405.

Don’t get the 405. If you run more than 6 miles the watch will become inoperable as the most insignificant amount of fingertip sweat renders the stupid touch bezel ring useless. Drips of sweat hitting the watch cause it to wig out and freeze. I’m a big Garmin freak and love the company…and the products…but the 405 is a POS.

Get the 310…don’t look back. My 405 is sitting in a drawer… The 310 is used everyday and works PERFECT…

FR305 is fine, but the 310XT is better. You’ll here some folks griping about it, but apart from some minor things it’s working fine for us. We have 2 and really like them over the 305
