Gait analysis in the Atlanta area

My brother lives in Atlanta and I have managed to talk him into getting into tri. He has never been much of a runner and has a very unorthodox, very inefficient (and possibly injury provoking) gait when he runs. I have strongly urged him to find a professional to put him on a treadmill, do some serious motion capture or video gait analysis, and help him figure out a safe and efficient stride. He seems open to the idea but has no idea where to go. Can anyone help me out with some recomendations?

Phidipides (sp?) has some really good people, I dont think that they actually have a treadmill with video capture, but they should be able to shoe him up and discern the right shoe.

Big Peach Running Co has a video setup. I am not as familiar with them so I will not personally endorse, but I am sure that they do a bang up job as well.

To clarify, I work in a specialty running shop (but in Boise, very far from Atlanta) and have evaluated his footstrike, gotten him fit in great shoes, and done some basic gait work with him, which is why I know it needs help. What he is in need of now if some full on rebuilding on his running biomechanics from someone with more of a PT/sports med background and the help of some serious technology.

Thanks for any reco’s

Hands down, Matt Russ at The Sport Factory.

He’s truly an expert-level coach and knows his shit. You won’t find anyone in this city that comes close!

Any colleges with exercise science programs in your area? I’m a kines / phys ed major and taking a Biomechanics class right now. Learning gait analysis is part of it. Maybe he can be a lab rat for a class

x 3 for Matt Russ at the Sport Factory. He is an expert level coach, and speaking from personal experience, he can tell you more about your gait from watching you run for 10 seconds than most others can from a true video gait analysis. He watched me run out of transition at one race and was able to speak about my running like he had written a book about it.

Go to www.thesportfactory.com and click services and follow the link to set up a session. He also does the same type of video analysis for your pedal stroke and it may make sense to have these done at the same time. I was pretty confident that I knew how to pedal a bicycle until I met Matt Russ  He will identify your inefficiencies and put into perspective just how much power you are loosing each pedal stroke.

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
