FYI: Updates on Craig, Tim, Normann, and Simon

Hey folks, I’m the Editorial Director at Carmichael Training Systems, and I thought some of the people on ST would be interested in some fresh updates on what Craig Alexander, Tim DeBoom, Normann Stadler, and Simon Whitfield were up to, at least in terms of training. We included updates on all of them in the newsletter we sent out this morning (you can view the page here: http://www.trainright.com/articles.asp?uid=4224) and below I’ve copy/pasted the update on Tim (I thought it was the most interesting update of the four…)

Tim DeBoom
Tim DeBoom is in a recovery week, resting up from his first hard block of training as a CTS Athlete. DeBoom cranked out longer and longer Tempo intervals on the bike this month, and was able to do so with progressively higher power outputs. CTS Coach Kirk Nordgren and Carmichael are both pleased with the workload DeBoom was able to accomplish. Through power file analysis and effective communication the coaches know that they reached overload in their first three-week build. DeBoom was experiencing significant, but not excessive, fatigue by the end of his third week and now, in his recovery week, Nordgren and Carmichael are monitoring Tim’s recovery closely. As it is still early in the coaching relationship, the coaches are still working to get a more accurate picture of how quickly Tim responds to training, and how much recovery he needs before he’s ready for the next block of big efforts.

And if you’re interested, there’s also a video of Tim’s lactate threshold and VO2 test from his recent trip to our facility in Colorado Springs: http://community.trainright.com/_Ironman-Champ-Tim-DeBoom-Testing-at-CTS/video/517347/302.html.

Going forward, I’ll do my best to give everyone here some regular updates on Craig, Tim, Normann, and Simon.

welcome to the board!

Cant wait to hear what those athletes are doing…

Can’t wait!!!

Hi Jim,

You guys have big results to back up with even better performances…I think Sutton’s model of taking non stars and developing them into stars has less risk. Taking on huge talent, typically there is only downside if they don’t back up previous Ironman wins or gold medals.

That being said, you could not ask for a better stable of whose who for marketing impact. I really hope for these athlete that they have best ever years, but I won’t neccessarily drink the Koolaid that CTS is going to do something magical that they could not achieve with other coaches (or self coaching) as some of them have done in the past :-).

If they kick ass, just let us know what the magic genie potion is :-).
