My wife and I are racing as a 2x person relay in our first ultra distance bike race in a couple of weeks. The training and planning is pretty much done, but now that we’re tapering I start to get antsy. Do any of you have any experience with Furnace Creek? Any tips for a couple of newbies into the ultra biking world?
Short pulls, like 30min and go hard and go aero. There will be plenty of time to eat while the other person is on the road. Don’t have much of anything on the bike. Maybe one bottle, if that and a couple crunchies. With two people, it’s not a very long race.

I have no experience or advice, but I wanted to wish you good luck. I’d never heard of the race until last week when I saw a blurb in our local paper about someone from our city who was going to participate. Sounds like fun. Again, good luck!
Relay, relay?
We’ve tried for three years to get our two person team down there, next year will probably be our shot.
It’s hardest on the crew, is what I’ve heard. People typically have a relief crew on saturday night to take over from the day crew. That has always been our plan.
But until now, just a plan.
@Sock Monkey Thanks for all the great information.
@Tiki Good luck next year, maybe we’ll be there next year?
